by Simorgh5555 on Thu Mar 17, 2011 11:01 AM PDTBelieve it or not even until two years ago I used to worship the Jewsish people and think Ahmadi was the devil himself, like so many others here. Perhaps your current hostility to Israel can be explained by your excess love for Jewish people before. Look, who says the Jewish people should be worshoped or even 'God's chosen people'? Israel should be treated like any other country in the Middle East with rights and obligations. It is capable of good and also deserves criticism when it defies international law. Like all countries it has extremists as well. All of this is about a sense of proportion. Criticise Israel all you like but when people start to question her right to exist and for Jews to live in their ancient homeland then you have crossed the line. I agree that Israel has a kneejerk reaction towards criticism and will use its power to lobby against anything against her interest but consider at all the provocations against Israel by the Islamic Republic from weapon shipments, support of Hezbollah terror, support of Hamas terrorists, attacks of the Argentine embassy and then ask if it was your country and had some one did this to Iran what would your reaction be? If you want to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians then fine. This is your prerogative (and there are many things wrong with Israeli policies in relation to occupied territories) but this should not be done at endangering Iran or indirectly confronting Israel by fighting a proxy war. Jews have more in common with Iranians than Paletinians.

Alaaf You are still a lier and Javoon- Read my question before
by Artificial Intelligence on Wed Mar 16, 2011 09:39 PM PDTMaking stupid comments.
First, Simorgh555 got it 100% correct. However, still, it is not "illegal" to marry a non jew in Israel. That is a lie. The problem in Israel is that the orthodox jews have a monopoly on marriage and death issues. You can not get a civil marriage in Israel regardless of your religion you can not even have a conservative rabbi or a reform rabbi to perform a marriage ceremony or burial. So if you are jew, you must go to an orthodox rabbi (only an orthodox rabbi), if you are christian, you must go to a christian priest. If you are a muslim, you must got to a muslim to get married. Naturally, no orthodox rabbi would sanction a marriage between a jew and a non jew. However, there is no official law making such marriage "illegal" were the state would not recognize it. So if you were a jew who married a non jew outside of the country, the state would recognize it. Or, if you were a jew and converted to Islam and married a muslim, the state would recognize it as it is not illegal to convert to another religion in Israel. I don't personally agree with giving monopoly to orthodox rabbis but that is the law and I feel that that is wrong and stupid. But this is not a racial issue it is a religious issue.
Now, if you are a Muslim in Iran, can you convert to another religion and announce it to the world while living in Iran? If you are a muslim woman in Iran, can you marry a christian? Would the Iranian government recognize such marriage?
As to the rape JavoonDeerooz, I did not say the guy deserved a 2 year sentence did I? I did not say it was rape either did I? He for sure did not deserve it. Mr. Alaaf said that it was "consensual sex". All I questioned was the statement regarding the sex being "consensual". It was not. For some in Israel, sleeping with an Arab is like sleeping with your biggest enemy. Unfortunately, that is the state of mind people have. I don't agree with that either. For some Muslims, Jews and Bahai are still considered najis. Its all wrong. But its not "racial".
Hope I made myself clear.

Iran Is Iranian People's Home!
by G. Rahmanian on Wed Mar 16, 2011 09:02 PM PDTIran Is Iranian People's Home! And until the day Iranians establish a democracy and enjoy life, I respect anyone who gives voice to the oppressed Iranian people. Iranians have lost their country to a bunch of mullahs with an inhuman and barbaric ideology. Right now, I hardly find enough time to do something for Iran. Perhas after Iran is free, I'll start thinking about other issues. Arab issues with Israel are Arab issues and must not be used as an excuse to stop those voices which support Iranians. Israel's domestic politics is also an Israeli issue. As an Iranian, I highly appreciate the Israeli authorities' generosity to permit such events to take place on their soil. Unfortunately, we have not seen such gestures from our Arab neighbors. But we saw the support of some Arab countries and the Palestinians for Saddam Hossein. Iranians cannot have a voice inside Iran and many who try to raise their voices against the brutalities of the regime are either murdered in cold blood or arrested, tortured or raped by the IR's authorities.

I should say Arabs did more harm and killed more Palestinians that Israel ...... with friends like this who needs enemy ......
After occupation Israel granted citizenship to all Palestinians .... some accepted and still are living inside Isreal ...... but then Arabs League warned all Palestinians not to give in and to not accept Israeli citizenship ..... They encouraged them so they became refugees. That piece of crap , the Arab League. started, a fake war against Isreal promising Palestinians the victory ........ As it was predicated and being the joke that the war was it went down the drain. Since then Palestinians became refugees of the world. One country that truly was mean and basically tortured these poor Palestinian refugees was Lebanon. They treated them like animal and they even have laws passed against them.
Palestinian students are denied enrollment in public educational facilities ....... Also Palestinian refugees are forbidden from practicing in over 20 different professions. This includes medicine, law, engineering, and pharmacy ......

I disagree with the notion that most Israelis want to live in peace with Palestinians, I believe a small and courageous minority are, the rest are active participants of a worst kind of racism and nationalism that is reminiscent of the Nazis. It is not their individual rational choice, but the structural necessity of their society. It is the banality of this condition of racism that is most shocking. They are willing to live in peace, but WITHOUT palestinians and other Muslims. Palestinians and Muslims must all die (or somehow disappear) before Israel can live in peace. Their societal guilt is so immense that they need to demonize the "other" (the Iranian, the Arab, the Muslim, the barbarian, etc.) in such liberal events, in order to obtain some temporary calm in their disturbed and unsettling conscience. They can care less about iranian women. They would choose to nuke all of them and the rest in a split second if it was politically viable. They would watch while the women of Iran, just as those of Palestine, die one-by-one (or better yet, in mass) from the Israeli state of the art weaponry and nuclear radiation.

Alaaf - Jewish marriages in Israel
by Simorgh5555 on Wed Mar 16, 2011 05:55 PM PDTYou are right: All Jewish mariages in Israel must conform to Rabinical laws but in the same way the country does not recognise inter-faith marriages it also does not recognise Liberal or Reform Jewish marriages so the policy is not just discrminatory towards members of other faiths. Those affected are also same sex couples. However, most Israelis who want to marry someone of a different religion will often elope to Cyrpus and then return to Israel and their marriages will be recognised as valid.
There is a difference between a law which is deliberatelty racist and then the other based on a religious law. Although interfaith marriages are not allowed it is not the same as appartheid because that would suggest separate seating areas and public places for Jews and non Jews. There is also no racial purity laws as in South Africa which stop Jews and non Jews from wishing to chose partners of different faiths.
Finally, you mention the laws are based on race but there are many Ephiopian Jews, soem with Jewish ancestry and some converted who do get married under Jewish law. And there is absolutely no racially similarity between Ethiopian Jews and the Ashkenazi Jews.
You are right about Israeli law not being perfect and by no means is it the vanguard of human rights but the same laws which place restrictions on civil society on the grounds of race and religion are prevalent amongst Jordan, Turkey, Malaysia and Indonesia.
But conside this: A Palestinian/Israeli Arab living in Israel cannot enter into a marriage with a Jew but he can become a doctor, claim social security benefts, have the right to vote and become ministers in government. Compare that to Lebanon where most Palestinains are forbidden by law to claim citizenship and enter into professions such as doctors, have the right to vote and forced to live in refugee camps. And these are there Arab brethren no different from one another cutlurally, religiously or genetically.
The reason: Because Lebanon does not want to be swamped with Palestinians and is concerned about its demographic implication if this happens. These are the same concerns which Israel has: rightly or wrongly.
Thank You!
by G. Rahmanian on Wed Mar 16, 2011 04:18 PM PDTVery touching and sad!
