AFP: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday the United States is easing visa terms for Iranian students here as part of efforts to support their aspirations for political change back home. In what she called a "big step forward" in the Obama administration support's for Iran's people, Clinton said Iranian students and exchange visitors are now eligible for two-year, multiple entry visas. "This gives young Iranians the opportunity to return home for family events, to participate in internships, to travel outside the United States -- and they won't need to get a new visa every time," she said in a statement >>>

mahmoudg and NIAC
by Rastgoo on Sat May 21, 2011 07:23 PM PDTThank you NIAC. Mahmoudg we are all very tired of your conspiracy theories and Machiavellian politics. In one posting you were advocating the bombing of Iran to free us of the regime since the American bombing would cost at most 200K+ where as the regime would kill 3 million to survive! So it's a no brainer to bomb! You and your spoiled and selfish ilk make Herr Fuhrer smile from beyond the grave!

by MM on Sat May 21, 2011 03:29 PM PDTI wanted to make it a short argument. My second point would have been just that. Thanks.
My third point, see We did it!, would have been to ask all the ney-sayers to tell us whether they would still be blowing punches if it was Shirin Ebadi who accomplished this task, and then what they would do differently!!!
Thank you Sec. Clinton and NIAC

What a Joke, First You create an Injustice, then you fix it!!!!
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat May 21, 2011 01:04 PM PDTSo then we have people clapping for NIAC. This is pathetic.
You guys put an islamic regime in power in Iran and literally order the Shah to leave the country and with everything that entails and now you are trying to pretend you have compassion for Iranians.
We'll think about that very carefully as we reflect on the millions of orphans you have created for Iraq, iran, afghanistan and the weapons you are selling the pro-democracy/al-quaeda trained libyans as your companies are profitting from libyan oil, while denying the libyan army the ability to buy weapons.
Human rights? Compassion? Justice? Democracy?
Thanks Hilary? just kidding LOL... YOU DON'T NEED ANY THANKS, IF YOUR ACTONS ARE NOT ROOTED IN IMMORAL PROFITS AND CREATING FUTURE INJUSTICES AND UNREST, YOU WOULDN'T BE the American Secratry of state ow would you, Secretary Clinton. You don't need thanks, your pay check will be good enough as they say.
Actually what would be in the interests of the Iranian people would be to change your policy of 37 years and listen to this leaders call for supporting Iranians opposed to the regime you created. www.rezapahlavi.com
Hilary Your country removed mossadegh in 1 week by cutting off all oil sales income to his government and then allowed the shah to unite the country and opposition into a majority which took care of his despotism.
What Iranians want to know is why you and america are so in love ith islam for Iran when the IRI has even less support than mossadegh?
What the shah wasn't taking orders from you?
Was he producing too much peace and stability for your liking? To much freedom, progress and development? Realize how disgraceful you all look before the ultimate judge of all, history and wake up to the fact that your hedgemony will be in a very different state in 10 years time if you continue with this game.

by comments on Sat May 21, 2011 12:09 PM PDTRE: "students associated with IRI". We are not going to see even one single pro-IRI-Iranian-student or basiji. The admission requirements are so competitive, and I don't think any IRI fans have a chance. On the other hand, Iran is an isolated country, and we will observe diverse change in students’ mentality after a year stay in the US and exposure to media.

I do not mind if the US administration identifies particular students associated with IRI and denies them F1-visa. But, to treat them all as terrorists until proven otherwise is pre-judging one whole segment into a single profile.
The question I have is: How can these students balance not being labeled as anti-IRI when they leave Iran and be labeled as pro-IRI by the likes of MG? What test would you all recommend for these students, and how far would you take your test; cf., the Stanford (J. Ullman) professor's requirments?
As far as I am concerned...

just prove him wrong if you can, instead of your personal attacks.

peaceful measure for change in Iran?
by Kooshan on Sat May 21, 2011 12:00 AM PDTI'm all for it. I value human life and I think doing it in the name of human dignity and value is the key to any struggle in anywhere in the world.
We all shall marginalize violent and destructive minds and resolve issues in the way that lessens human suffering.
To do this we all need to come out of our selfish shell!

by Ramin J on Fri May 20, 2011 11:49 PM PDTI know you have openly called for the bombing of Iran and i hope you will repent one ay. But I will nevertheless respond to your nonsense post because i will not permit anyone to ruin the great victory our community scored today thanks to NIAC's great work.
i watched Parazit at work and I noticed that almost immediately after they announced that the visa issue would be changed, i got an email from NIAC praisng the decision INCLUDING a really nice video about the issue and the decision.
Now, unless the NIAC folks have a machine that freeze time, this means that NIAC was deeply involved in the decision and the issue. They must have known that today was D day.
So the fact that they had decisive influence on this issue I believe is self-evident. And it is noteworthy that Parsi and Abdi's article just a few weeks ago was titled... "How Obama Can Reach the Iranian People: Start With Visas" and it called for this exact measure.
//www.huffingtonpost.com/jamal-abdi/how-obama...
Now of course, for those who only wish our community to be voiceless and weak, their worst enemy is NIAc and its strength. And they will lie, cheat and defy logic to push us down.
But we have NIAC on our side, so my money is on teh Iranian-American community, not on the haters, MKO terrorists or the regime supporters!
Thank you thank you thank you NIAC!!!!
by Ramin J on Fri May 20, 2011 11:41 PM PDTWe are so blessed to have an organization that is so effective and so responsive to the needs of our community! You guys give me hope!
Congratulations to Iranian-Americans and NIAC
by Bavafa on Fri May 20, 2011 10:44 PM PDTThis is a great step forward, a victory perhaps for the Iranian-Americans and Iranian students. Thanks for all of those who have united and participating, many thru NIAC, in exercising their right to have a voice in Washington.
Of course every society and group has those who choose to paddle against the current or even 'choob la charkh kardan' and our community is not immune from those.

If NIAC had anything to do with this, which I doubt
by mahmoudg on Fri May 20, 2011 07:51 PM PDTit was to server their own purpose. so that students sanctioned by the regime would be eligible to enter the US. More terrorists perhaps!!!!! I want to see students who do not have to show allegiance to the system to be able to enter.
I'm not so sure this was a battle worth fighting
by bahmani on Fri May 20, 2011 05:03 PM PDTI'll take it but I wish NIAC would do more than just address and try to fix problems in the US.
Read my counter argument: //iranian.com/main/blog/bahmani/another-m...
There's far more work to be done in Iran. And NIAC can do that from here very easily.

by Soosan Khanoom on Fri May 20, 2011 03:48 PM PDTThanks NIAC ... that was fast !
But we also need to ask them to have the same rule for the ones who already are in the U.S with F1.... this apparently does not apply to them .
it is just for the ones who are going to apply for F1 in the future .... Still It is better than nothing but it is really unfair to those who have been in this country for years and not being able to even go back once ....
