The Tomb of Esther and Mordechai is located in Hamadan, Iran. Believed to house the remains of the biblical Queen Esther and her uncle Mordechai, it is the most important pilgrimage site for Jews in the country. In 1891 the tomb was described as consisting of an outer and inner chamber surmounted by a dome about 50ft high. The dome had been covered with blue tiles, but most of them had fallen away. A few tombs of worthy Jewish individuals were located within the outer chamber>>>

by Simorgh5555 on Fri May 20, 2011 01:57 AM PDTI have read frm various sources that e tomb is not really that of Mordechai d Esther but a Jewish Queen or Princess of the Sassanid period. Some Sassanian kings such as Bahram V had Jewish mothers (which makes him Halachically Jewish) and therefore the authenticity of the tomb is questionable as is the entire Purim story.
Another factor is that the tomb may have been attributed to Esther a part of a ruse to prevent its destruction from Muslims or those hostile to the real person in the tomb. Thia theory is plausible given that the tomb of Cyrus in Pasaargaad had long been called he tomb of the mother of Solomon by Zoroastrians as a trick to prevent Muslim invaders from demolishing e shrine. The reference to the descendent of Abraham was the reason it was spared from certain destruction.

Persian Jews, the oldest and purest Jews in the world
by Khebedin on Thu May 19, 2011 08:05 PM PDTIt saddens me to see that we have the best of everything, yet we don't vale and take care of them.
Iranian Jews are amongst the oldest and purest Jews in the world. They are part of Iranian integrity and culture, they are more Iranian ( persian) than may of us who have converted to Islam.
Let us hope that we all help them to keep their tradition and culture and remain in Iran to look after their heritage.
Part of our heritage.

by ramintork on Thu May 19, 2011 10:43 AM PDTBut the myth around Esther never adds up!
For one thing who was King Ahasuerus and a 180-day feast or King's order to massacre Jews and then changing his mind but not being ble to retract his order he states that the Jews can defend themselves! It seems like a myth? Was Ahasuerus a Medean King rather than Persian king Xerxes I or was he a later Sassanid King?Have archaeologists investigated the authenticity of those tombs? There is a tomb of Ali in Mazar-i-Sharif too, because some Mullah had a dream Ali is buried there! But Ali never set foot that far, dead or alive.
