Farhad A. Ebrahimi: Tax Me

Occupy Wall Street protesters find allies in ranks of the wealthy

MSNBC: Farhad A. Ebrahimi, 33, who shares his inherited wealth through a charity that he founded, says he attends the Occupy Boston protest every day. He has donated tents, helped with organizing, raised funds and written for the protesters' blog. He said that his inheritance put him squarely in the top 1 percent, plus he makes enough on investment income every year to be in the highest tax bracket. But he lives what he calls a “Spartan” life compared to other members of his family. At the protest, he often wears a homemade T-shirt that reads: “I’m a member of the 1 percent and I fully support the 99 percent” on the front, and, “Tax me, I’m good for it,” on the back >>>

SAME TO YOU HOOSHANG!

by Kaveh Nouraee on

Why don't YOU educate YOURSELF? What do YOU know about this so-called "movement"?

Aside from their collective vitriolic hatred of anyone with money, there has yet to be a single cohesive point conveyed by any of these bozos.

Life isn't perfect and nothing is guaranteed besides death. You want something in this world, get off your ass and work for it. EARN it. Don't stick your hand out like a pathetic beggar and expect anyone else to do it for you. Not the government, not even family.

You want to align yourself with a bunch of losers, I won't stand in your way. I didn't get the memo that wealth and financial success is as much of a social faux pas as smoking.

What is stupid in here in your utterly ignorant statements about

by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on

a movement you hardly know anything about. EDUCATE YORSELF. Go and read Howard Zinn's "A Peoples History of the US," and see why you're just out of your rockers.

I stand corrected, you're an esteemd "One Percenter Wanna be," the Persian branch of Tea Party. How refreshing.

Hooshang

by Kaveh Nouraee on

I am not a "one percenter". I am one of the majority of people who works his ass off to keep his head above water for teh sake of himself and his family in this lousy economy.

A lousy economy that this so-called president has done absolutely NOTHING to revive except to point fingers at others.

As for their gadgets, they happen to be material items that they despise others for having.

What is stupid about these idiots is that they advocate the failure of the very segment of a market-driven society that can actually create jobs, either directly or indirectly. These slackers think that if a rich person goes broke, THEIR life will somehow improve. Now you tell me how the hell is that even remotely possible.

Listen, if you want to just GIVE what you earn to these people in return for NOTHING from them (which is what they advocate) then be my guest.

Third World Surrealist Wanna be meets, First World Movement

by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on

In less than two months this movement has done, what hasn't been done in the past three decades. There are myriads of angels one can see this profound change. For the moment, some notes on the linguistic side of this phenomenon shall suffice. Whereas two months ago terms such as: Banksters, One-Percenters,...would not have been even recognized, now they're part of the public discourse.

Our 'esteemd' One-Percenter below sounds so much like those obtuse Ghajar peasant 'royalties' wondering how the fish eating Englisis control the world out of an island. He just can't belive people with gadgets could attend protests! If they could listen to ipod, there's no reason for dissent.

And in your ever loving mind, how the heck in the world could one percent do anything, other than hoarde greed.

These "Occupiers" Are All Idiots

by Kaveh Nouraee on

And so are the ones who support them.

They are not 99% of anything, except that they are perhaps 99% useless.

I love these stories about how these so-called 99% are demanding the redistribution of wealth, essentially steal it from people who have it and give it to people who don't.

Meanwhile, at these gatherings, these idiots have had their iPhones, iPads, laptops, cameras, and other valuable items (all the result of the work of the evil, dastardly, greedy 1%) stolen from them and they have the nerve to complain!

After all, their posessions weren't stolen. They were "redistributed".

One thing does not negate the other, I do not think this Farhad guy thinks that the problems will vanish by him being there, but he seems to think that he wants to learn or help and kudos to him for that. No one has really the answer to the problems, at best we think we do.

Also I do not agree with you about problems in Nordic Countries, none of them have the problems US and south European countries have. They have gone through banking problems earlier and have put in place restrictions on bank loans. They do not either try to be neo Capitalists so they adapt and improve their system all the time and are not affraid of being called socialists or liberals or whatever.

If it was not because of the southern EU problems these countries GDP would have grown much higher. The problem is that according to one of the guests in BBC Asia is taking over and western world are spening as if they are still in charge.

Choghok: I know He's there..

by bahmani on

That's why I suggested he pack up and go home. It's ridiculous and makes my point. The 1% can never save the 99%. This is just a process of anger and resentment for the 1% being lucky enough to not be the 99%. during times like these, when the system seems to have failed the 99%, it just has to take its toll. There is no actual answer except for society to decide to stop allowing corruption. This is in one way, part of that process. It's not a switch Farhad can throw. It's not a sandwich he can buy for a protester. It's a process of initial pain, followed by outrage, then followed by healing, and then resolve.

We're Iranian, so we are only used to the pain part. We are apparently allergic to outrage, so we never get to the healing stage. Never mind any sort of resolution.

My Kudos to him by putting his money where his mouth is…

by Bavafa on

Making us proud for being such great and caring human being by supporting the weak.

It is an insult to the injury that most of those 1% have got there by theft, hook & crook, just as it is happening in our own mother-land.

'Hambastegi' is the main key to victory

"If it makes you feel any better, any one of the 99% would stop protesting in a heartbeat if they had your money."

He is there himself so that makes your point invalid if you understand what I am saying.

Also I think you should all look at the BBC Persian program "safheye2" weekend especiall, it was about all the financial issues, it  was enlighting, about the hardship felt by Western countries these days.

Seriously...

You have a big problem with the tax system, banking system and so on in the States... There's no "lottery-problem"... Ask yourself why don't you see this problem in Finland, Norway, Sweden etc...

Farhad stick to yor instincts

by bahmani on

The patronizing attitude that everything will be solved if the rich lottery ticket winners like Farhad here, give more to the 99% ditch diggers, is the greater insult. I know this because I dig ditches for the rich.

The reality is that not everyone will win the lottery ticket. That's why only 1% are rich!

The simple point about the Occupy Wall Street protests in the US and the world, is that when the top 1% flaunt their luck at merely being winners in a life-lottery, all while the economy collapses for the 99% around them, this sort of sucks for the 99%.

When things suck for a majority and don't suck for a minority, mob rules apply, and occasionally the rich get eaten by the poor.

The best thing to do if you are rich now, is lay low. Go on vacation, and just try and stay out of the way as society deals with it's pain. Before you know it, the economy will be back and you can come out of your coffins and walk among the living once again.

Farhad jan, you can buy everyone a round then.

Proclaiming you are a good and kind rich person during this end of days, only makes your flesh taste sweeter.

That's it, the 99% poor are just angry and pissed off and jealous of the 1% rich.

This might seem unfair to Farhad, but Farhad jan, sometimes you don't win. Sometimes, like the 99% do everyday, you lose.

So go back to your penthouse. Order up some female companionship, triple-blended coke, gay porn, and sushi, and snort, slurp, and fuck your way out of this mess like any real rich person would.

Nothing you do will make any kind of lasting point right now. The 99% just need to blow off some long built-up steam. Someone has to get hurt. Blood needs to spill.

If it makes you feel any better, any one of the 99% would stop protesting in a heartbeat if they had your money.
