Democracy Now! speaks with Kamran Loghman, the expert who developed weapons-grade pepper-spray, who says he was shocked at how police have used the chemical agent on non-violent Occupy Wall Street protesters nationwide -- including students at University of California, Davis, female protesters in New York City, and an 84-year old activist in Seattle. Loghman in the 1980s helped the FBI develop weapons-grade pepper-spray, and collaborated with police departments to develop guidelines for its use.

Rational Reaction – Not Emotional - No Excuses
by Faridmazdak on Thu Dec 08, 2011 03:15 PM PSTFIRST: I disagree totally with the comment that pepper spray and taser does not save lives. This statement seems rationale but is really based on emotions. In early 80’s my brother found out that his finance is dating someone else. That night he got very drunk and he was stopped by the police. I was with him. He was crying and cursing. He pushed the police officer away and punched him in the chest and that’s when he took his gun and killed him in front of my eyes. “If he had pepper spray his life would have been saved”. This is what three independent experts later said in court.
SECOND: The ancient Persians believed in light and they were empowered. Most Iranians today have a dark and negative attitude and this is why our lives don’t go anywhere. I don’t know the inventor of pepper spray, so I am not going to judge his intentions. Perhaps we should pour some light into our negative outlooks and give others a benefit of the doubt that maybe only maybe some people are trying to do good.
Peace
No excuses
by Shemirani on Thu Dec 01, 2011 01:21 AM PSTYou knew from day one, this can be used as a weapon against human beings ! saying that: " it saved lives" is really absurd ! only penicillin or vaccine saved lives !! not your pepper spray !
it's just about money va in poolaha haam "omad" nadare Aghaye Kamran !
Pepper spray (and taser ) should be ban all over the globe.
A great conversation on one of the last bastion of democracy ...
by Bavafa on Wed Nov 30, 2011 09:41 AM PSTOne cannot expect to create a weapon and not to be used by the rouge agent of the beholder. Much like the atomic bomb in the hand of those currently holding the world hostage, this event and similar to it should have been expected and we are to see more of it, sadly
