AP — Iran thrashed 10-man Bahrain 6-0 on Tuesday to go top of Group E in third round Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Bahrain was reduced to 10 men after just 43 seconds when defender Rashid al-Hoti was shown a straight red card for his tackle on midfielder Andranik Teimourian. 6:0 is about right!
I hope Team Melli can reach Brazil's World Cup!

Ups and downs!
by Arj on Tue Oct 11, 2011 08:21 PM PDTDear Disenchanted, I totally agree... while possessing the best talents and most technical players on the continent, inconsistency and volatility is a major hindrance to our TM. That..., and mismanagement!
P.S. Nonetheless, it's great to see Bahrain's a** getting kicked back to the desert they hail from. I have a hard time forgetting these bastards' victory laps while flying the Saudi flag after eliminating Iran a decade ago!

Finally Iran has a professional coach that can prepare the team mentally for a big game. The forward line remains a problem despite the 6 goals. Ando's goal was world class and Ansarifard touch was perfect on the 5th goal.
The next match is against Bahrain in Manama on November 11th. Iran with a tie is almost guaranteed the first spot in the group and on to the next round where the real competition starts.
Nooshe joone har do teem!

by Disenchanted on Tue Oct 11, 2011 06:31 PM PDTSame team would lose to say Tajikestan if temperature rises a couple of degrees or if they change their uniform colors!! Usually everything is hunky dory till the moment that it is about life and death and that is exactly when they cannot pull through and they lose!
How many tournaments we have witnessed that?! Nevertheless congrats on kicking the Bahrain butt. They should go over all Asian teams like this if they ever gonna be anyone in the world stage!
No Reason to Cheer (yet)
by bahmani on Tue Oct 11, 2011 05:43 PM PDTIran has possibly drawn the easiest group, avoiding giants like Saudi Arabia, China, Japan and both Koreas, and if we survive any of that, there's Australia.
This is a great confidence builder though, and possibly one of the best balanced teams Iran has put forth in years.
The players seem selfless enough, but this often dies pretty quick, when they realize they are on the professional soccer player market as well as playing for national fame.
When those $$$'s get real, Iran's teams seem to fade faster than a Basiji on a motorbike.
This is part of that whole being oppressed and not a free country bullshit everyone keeps ignoring.
Once again though, we shall hope and we shall see. Mostly we shall hope. Although, most of the time we don't get to see too much for too long.
The good news is I didn't see Ali Daie anywhere, so Phew!
