Mahabad Kurdish Republic, 1946

During Soviet occupation of Iran

Wikipedia: The Republic of Mahabad, officially known as Republic of Kurdistan and established in Iranian Kurdistan, was a short-lived, Kurdish government that sought Kurdish autonomy within the limits of the Iranian state. The capital was the city of Mahabad in northwestern Iran. The state itself encompassed only a small territory, including Mahabad, and the market towns of Piranshahr, Sardasht, Bukan, Naqada and Ushnaviya. The republic's founding and demise was a part of the Iran crisis during the opening stages of the Cold War >>>

Wonder Where Was Mossadegh to Protest against this Jomhury? Kind of an unfair question isn't it?!!!

The Kurdistan issue had nothing to do with Mossadegh's primary wish and motivation of facilitating the removal of the Pahlavis and the return of the Qajar Dynasty. So, why would he protest?

Mossadegh was a good man and a dedicated Ghajari. He was also a very disciplined old school Ghajar politician. As such, he would never indulge trivial issues such as Iran's territorial integrity and risk lose valuable allies such as the Tudeh party who had spent so much of their valuable time and effort towards helping Azerbaijan and Kurdistan gain separation from Iran.

I suggest you write more carefully in the future and stay out of the Mossadegh Saltaneh's territory.

Clever window dressing!

by Reality-Bites on

Clever addition of the phrase: "seeking autonomy within the limits of the Iranian state."  to mask the fact that this was nothing less than a concerted attempt at separatism from Iran.

Also, reading this blog's wiki article, it seems heavily slanted towards Kurdish separatism and anti-Iranian.

I have part Kurdish roots myself, but I'm Iranian first and foremost. While I celebrate and would support the preservation of various cultures of Iran's ethnic groups and perhaps even some kind of federal system with more local involvement, I'd never support anything that would serve as a back door to separatism and disintegration of one of the world's oldest countries: OUR IRAN.
