Kaleme: Journalist and researcher Alireza Rajaee was arrested in June 2011. After spending two months in solitary confinement inside the IRGC's Ward 2-A in Evin Prison, he was transferred to Ward 350 of the facility. Presently he is serving a sentence he received in 2001. On Sunday, April 22, he was summoned again by Evin Prison Investigative Judge who informed him of his charges of "propagating against the regime." Rajaee was then transferred to a solitary cell inside IRGC's Ward 2-A again.
In February and March of this year, Rajaee's interrogator had threatened him and sworn that he would treat him harshly and transfer him from Ward 350 to a prison with a lot worse conditions.
Interrogators have repeatedly told political prisoners that all decisions pertaining to their sentencing and the way they would be treated and their furlough would be made by their interrogators [and not by judges or other Judiciary authorities].
Political prisoners know from what they have experienced over the recent years that judicial authorities closely follow and uphold decisions made by the interrogators. It is against procedures to keep prisoners in solitary confinement and in security wards after they have been sentenced.
In addition to the three-year term Alireza Rajaee is currently serving, he has another case with similar charges inside Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court. A lower court in the second case has sentenced him to four years in prison. Furthermore, a new case has been brought against Rajaee on charges of "propagating against the regime," inside Branch Four of Tehran Investigative Court.
It appears that the renewed pressure on Nationalist-Religious activists is aimed to force the group's members to resign from the group. Alireza Rajaee's resistance during his detention period has led to heavy sentences by his interrogators.
