Farshid Fathi: Prisoner of the day

Christian convert sentenced to six years in prison

Mohabat News: The Tehran Revolutionary Court has sentenced Farshid Fathi, a Christian convert, to six years in prison. Fathi has served 15 months inside Evin Prison on "temporary detention" orders without furlough. He is currently held inside Evin Prison's Ward 350.

Fathi's trial was postponed several times during the past year. His first court session was held in January 2012.

Though no official news about the ruling has been published yet, an informed source told Mohabat News that Farshid Fathi's charges included "acting against national security," "contact with foreign organizations," and "religious propagation."

Fathi, 33, is married and has two children. Tehran intelligence forces arrested Fathi along with dozens of other Iranian Christians nationwide on 26 December 2010. At the time, forces told families of those detained that their charges were apostasy, propagating Christianity, and relations with Christian organizations.
