by R2-D2 on Tue Aug 07, 2012 03:53 PM PDTThe free-style wrestling is the one sport that Iran is truly famous for - The greatest Olympian in Iranian's hearts, Ghloamreza Takhti, was a free-style wrestler -
To be honest, I just can not believe how wonderfully the athletes have done so far in this Olympics - With all the sanctions, etc., against Iran, these Medals is one thing that All Iranians can be truly happy for -
Tks Again For Your Very Kind Words,

by R2-D2 on Tue Aug 07, 2012 02:51 PM PDTOf Our Wonderful "Olympians" In London -
I've Followed The Olympics Since 1968, Mexico City, When I Was Just 10 Years Old - I Never Forget One Of Our Greatest Champions Mohammad Nassiri In Those Games - He Was Against The Hungarian Imre' Fouldi -
In His Clean & Jerk, He Had Fouled Twice - On His Last, And Third Attempt, He Knew That He Couldn't Win The Gold Medal By Just Lifting The Weight That He Had "Fouled" Twice - So, He Increased The Weight To 150 Kg, Several Kilos Heavier Than What He Had Fouled Previously -
And, As He Was Going Around The Stage Saying "Ali-st", Ali-st", He Lifted The 150 Kg Weight, And Won The Gold Medal - As A 10 Year Old, I Was In Tears -
What I'm Trying To Say Is, To Me, Sports Transcends Politics - When The Shah Was In Power, I "Religiously" Followed Our Athletes, And Now That The Mullahs Are In Power, I Do The Same -
I Sincerely Hope My Fellow Iranians Would Consider Doing The Same - We're All Afterall Iranians, Regardless Of Who's Indeed In Power -
Today, In The "Super Heavy-Weight" Division In Weighlifting, Our Iranian Champions Won Both The Gold And The Silver: The Gold Went To Behdad Salimi, And The Silver Went To Sajjad Anoushiravani -
I've Put Together A Short Blog Celebrating Their Victories - If You're Interested, There Is A Video Link That You Can See Their Liftings, And Also The Medal Ceremony:

Wishing All My Fellow Iranians The Best,

Anglophile: Hamid Sourian claimed his medal for Ahmadinezhad!
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Tue Aug 07, 2012 08:54 AM PDTAt least the last medal he won.
I wonder, with ahmadinezhad's demise, to whome sourian will bow and present this medal to upon his return to tehran? Rafsanjani? Shazdeh Mojtaba khamenei? or maybe Allah's spokseman on earth, khamenei himself? Or maybe he should wait a few months and see who the powers to be have decided to take charge of Iran after the demise of Islamist Reime??

More Medals on the Way!
by Faramarz on Tue Aug 07, 2012 07:53 AM PDTThis morning, Iran's 96 Kg Greco-Roman wrestler, Gholamreza Rezaei made it to the final against the Russian opponent Rustam Tatrov.
The Russian Rustam looks tough. Let's see how the Iranian Rostam steps it up. Final starts at 11:48 am.
In the 66 Kg Greco-Roman, the refs took the match away from Iran's world champ Abdvali in the quarter finals and gave it to the French. You'll hear about this one. A French wrestler, what an oxymoron!
Later on today, in Super Heavy Weightlifting, Bedad Salimi (world record holder, 455 Kg) and Sajjad Anoushiravani (445 Kg) will take the stage (starting at 11 am).

Iran's population ranks #17 in the world, but medal count ranks #29 in the world. There is some room for improvement, I think!
