Iranians Maryam Toosi took the gold in the women's 400m. Toosi faced a challenge from Chen Jingwen of China but a strong finish saw her win and improve her Area season's best to 53.85. See her Facebook page >>>

Photoshopping!
by G. Rahmanian on Thu Feb 23, 2012 02:24 AM PSTYolanda dear, this photoshopping could be the work of Mossad to discredit the Islamist Republic. The Zionists are just jealous because a female Muslim runner has won a gold medal!
Let's wait and see how these enemies of Islam photoshop Reza Bouasar's winning moment!
But it shouldn't surprise you if the Mullas themselves did it. It only punctuates their celebrated sexual orientation!
Never mind Ahmadinejad's claim that there are no gays in Iran!
Iran has many talents!
by Arash Kamangir on Thu Feb 23, 2012 01:32 AM PSTWe were before 1979 Asian athletics champions in many different fields and under IR our young people have not been able to show the world what they have in them! Women like Maryam are selfbuilt and selfeducated! Welldone!!
...........
by yolanda on Wed Feb 22, 2012 09:52 PM PSTThis lady has a lot of residual strength, she apparently accelerated at the end of the race while other runners were running out of gas and slowing down!
I can't believe IRI photoshopped her picture, so it is OK for IRI's operatives cavorting with prostitutes in Thailand, but it is not ok for her to have breasts! OMG!

Thanks for the correction Faramarz
by Ari Siletz on Wed Feb 22, 2012 08:40 PM PSTThe difference between indoors and outdoors time is significant. By the way, unfair comparison: a naked gazelle wouldn't stand a chance against Dee Dee and Natasha, much less one wrapped in a hejab.
Well Done :) !
by R2-D2 on Wed Feb 22, 2012 07:38 PM PST.....
Correction Ari
by Faramarz on Wed Feb 22, 2012 07:08 PM PSTThe record that you have mentioned is for outdoors. The indoor records are much slower. The European record is 49.59 and the US record is 50.78.
The reason the outdoor records are better is because of the fewer number of curves, fresh air, wind and better surface.
Now look at these athletes and tell me if an athlete with hejab stands a chance.

About 50.55 secs without hejab (at best)
by Ari Siletz on Wed Feb 22, 2012 06:11 PM PSTThis lower limit guess is based on a temperature vs. running efficiency calculator on this running site
Current women's world 400m record is 47.60sec (Marita Koch 1985)
Note that the calculator does not calculate distances below 3 miles. So in getting an estimate of 50.55 seconds using this distance you get an exteremely generous correction. Overheating is a vastly bigger problem in distance running, so Maryam Toosi would be Shahid Maryam Toosi if she tried to break marathon records, but as a semi-sprinter her life is spared with less than (probably much less than) 6% decrease in performance.
Throw in an extra pound for clothing weight.
In spite of the hejab or thanks to the hejab?
by bahmani on Wed Feb 22, 2012 05:13 PM PSTThe laws of Aerodynamics suggest possible an unfair advantage to a hejab over none. Also the time is a full 3 seconds slower than anything average in the rest of the world.
Count it, one thousand one - one thousand two - one thousand three. That's behind over half of the field of a real race. That's almost all the white runners beating you.
Asian games, Asian cup, Asian this, that, or the other, simply doesn't count for shit when the world is the real venue for athletic competition. I have always hated the Asian games for falsely implying world relevance.
What's next, the Persian Gulf Games? Is Iran beating the Arabs the next bragging right desperately needed to prove that Islam wins the athletic as well as semantic argument? Ha-Ha!
No, this race wasn't a real one. This naive and valiant Iranian woman merely overcame an entirely unnecessary obstacle, that in this case ironically worked to her advantage by enabling her to have a lower drag coefficient and use her last ounce of energy to beat a couple of slow Asians in a 1/2 size indoor rubberized track.
BFD.
Take the hood off, put on some shorts, and lets see what you do on the real world stage. If you even qualify I'll gladly eat your hat/hejab.
