National Iranian American Council (NIAC) is proud to announce the NIAC Ambassadors for 2012! The Ambassador Program was created to motivate Iranian Americans to get active in their communities and stay informed on issues that affect us most. The Ambassadors help plan and execute cultural events and maintain the line of communication between their peers and the NIAC staff in DC. They cover a wide range of age groups among themselves and come from various backgrounds, including recent Iranian immigrants, long-time immigrants, and Iranians born in the U.S. Pride in heritage and dedication to the advancement of the Iranian-American community are what drives the Ambassadors to volunteer their time. NIAC owes many of its prior achievements to the hard work and dedication of these exemplary individuals. For more information or for future Ambassador opportunities, please contact Nobar Elmi, Director of Community Outreach and Programming for National Iranian American Council at nelmi@niacouncil.org.

by Fesenjoon2 on Thu Feb 16, 2012 10:09 AM PSTThats precisely the way you have to confront these NIAC junkies.
Ask them:
1. Are you willing to put Iran's human rights issues as a TOP priority in your organization? (i.e. take action, not just give sho'ar)?
2. Do you strongly advocate releasing all political prisoners in Iran?
3. Do you support moratorium on all executions?
4. Do you support bringing Islamic Republic war criminals to trial?
5. Do you support a secular Iran?
If the answer to any of these is NO or even a weak YES (usually accompanied by ands, ums, buts), then they are exactly what you called them: mouthpiece monkeys of the Islamic Republic.
I like the idea of 'day
by vildemose on Thu Feb 16, 2012 09:31 AM PSTI like the idea of 'day of service'...What does that entail?
A state of war only serves as an excuse for domestic tyranny.--Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.
Thank you NIAC,
by Albaloo on Thu Feb 16, 2012 09:18 AM PSTThis is very promising and will be beneficial for the Iranian community in the U.S. .
Yes to human rights Yes to
by Simorgh5555 on Thu Feb 16, 2012 08:36 AM PSTYes to human rights
Yes to release all political prisoners
Yes to moratorium on exexutions
Yes to bringing Islamic Republic war criminals to trial
Yes to secular Iran
So,
by iraj khan on Thu Feb 16, 2012 08:35 AM PST'stop supporting these monkeys and denounce these traitors for the mouthpiece of the IR which they are'.
In response I say:
NO WAR, NO TERROR, NO SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN.
And that's what the majority of Iranian Americans and NIAC stand for. Only %3 of Iranian Americans support a war against Iran.
More information about NIAC and what they stand for could be accessed on their website: //www.niacouncil.org/site/PageServer?pagename=NIAC_index
Not a priority
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Feb 16, 2012 07:42 AM PSTSimorgh, NIAC does do some human rights work, only not enough. It's just not their priority. There's a difference between not doing anything and doing something. I prefer something to nothing:

Jahanshah
by Simorgh5555 on Thu Feb 16, 2012 07:32 AM PSTYou know very well that human rights are not and has never been part of the NIAC agenda. Many incidents fail to be reported in the Human Rights section despite being well documented in every international media source. Human Rights is merely window dressing to disguise their unequivical suport of the IR. Human Rights are always discussed in general terms and specific cases and details are often igmored. Every discussion of human rights is accompanied by a statement opposed to sanctions. Human Rigjts- whatever that means to NIAC is simply capitalised by them as part of the strategy to stop sanctions. Please stop supporting these monkeys and denounce these traitors for the mouthpiece of the IR which they are.
Thank you
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Feb 16, 2012 07:03 AM PSTThank you for your good work and best of luck, but remember, repression and human rights abuses in Iran are immediate, urgent concerns.
People are wasting away in prison. They and their families have lost their livelihood. They are being tortured. Many have been sentenced to jail simply for expressing what they think. These are REAL and PRESENT threats to Iranian society, more so than a foreign military confrontation that may or may not happen.
As "ambassadors" you have a responsibility to expose and condemn the harm being done on a daily basis to innocent citizens under the repressive theocracy in Iran.
Good luck!

Where doe$ NIAC money come from?
by WeAreBlessed on Thu Feb 16, 2012 05:10 AM PSTThe rent of the Washington DC NIAC office costs a lot of money. Paying for NIAC staff adds additional costs.
Who pays for NIAC?
Where does NIAC money come from?
Answering these very simple questions will reveal a lot of information, not previously shared by NIAC personel.
As an Iranian-American, I think I deserve to know where NIAC gets it funding, since this organization makes claims that it represents our interests.
We want specific numbers (down to cent) for the past 7 years: all money coming in and all expedatures, on an Excel spreadsheet (at least 1 spreadsheet per year).

by Simorgh5555 on Wed Feb 15, 2012 11:05 PM PSTWhy is it I never see an Iranian flag branded anywhere on a NIAC site? What is your flag, the splendid Shir o Khorshid or the ugly Allah one?
Also,
by iraj khan on Wed Feb 15, 2012 08:17 PM PSTNational Iranian American Council has announced the:
"National Iranian American Day of Service, March 3rd, 2012"
The Iranian New Year, Norooz, is a time of year to celebrate family, friends and the rebirth of nature. It’s also a time for spring cleaning ‘khouneh tekouni’ and, according to some, setting the tone for the year ahead. Last year, for the first time, hundreds of Iranian Americans from across the nation came together to give back all in the spirit of Norooz.
In hopes of keeping this tradition alive, NIAC is proud to announce the 2nd Annual National Iranian American Day of
Service on Saturday, March 3.
Not only will this allow us to share a piece of our rich culture with our American friends and neighbors, but it will allow us to make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most."

by Fesenjoon2 on Wed Feb 15, 2012 05:55 PM PSTNo, really.
Nice hip yuppies and professionals with ties and suits and smiling faces, who support relations with a tyrranical regime at the bottom of the pit of world civilization.
Now where have I seen such warm deceptive faces before.....
Oh, I remember:

Dual Personalities Disorders Line Up!
by Demo on Wed Feb 15, 2012 02:30 PM PSTAs alluring as 'Iranian American' stamp sounds, it is a psychological disorder of dual personalities! 2 be eual to 1? Just unheard of!
It is more like an Iranian (if for real!) wearing an American mask & vice versa.Or like an Ostrich, when asked to fly he claims to be a 'Camel' & when asked to carry load, he identifies himself as a 'Bird.' And as the copy cat of NIAC, this 'swift-footed 2-toed flightless ratite bird' when pursued hides his head in the sand and believes itself to be unseen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent work!
by iraj khan on Wed Feb 15, 2012 01:15 PM PSTIranian Americans need to get involved and interact with others.
NIAC is one of the organizations that is showing the way, thanks for posting it here.
Ya Mahdi!
by Fesenjoon2 on Wed Feb 15, 2012 01:05 PM PSTLet's unite and follow NIAC's lead, and push the US to make peace with these people:

What Iranians lack in the West, US specially...
by Bavafa on Wed Feb 15, 2012 09:05 AM PSTIs involvement in their community, local and geo politics and any effort to unite Iranians, to give them a voice much like other minorities should be cheered and encouraged.
I hail their effort in this regard.
