RAHANA: Rosita Vaseghi is a Bahai citizen from Mashad. She was arrested on 15 March 2010 at her home and was immediately transferred to the Central Prison of Mashad. After 12 days, Vaseghi was transferred to solitary cells inside Mashad's Intelligence Office Detention Center, where she was exposed to immense pressure to promise to stop her propagating and religious activities.
Rosita Vaseghi endured two months of solitary confinement and severe conditions under interrogation before she was moved to solitary cells inside Mashad's Central Prison on 25 April 2010. During this time, she was only allowed one visit with her family. Despite her family's posting a $50,000 bail for her on 27 June 2010, she was never released. Rosita Vaseghi spent more than six months in solitary cells under interrogation and pressure. She was transferred to Mashad's Vakilabad Prison on 26 September 2010.
On 20 December 2010, Rosita Vaseghi and three other Bahai citizens, Sonia Ahmadi, Noura Nabilzadeh, and Nahid nabilzadeh, were tried by the Mashad Revolutionary Court. Her charges were stated as "propagating the Bahai faith," and "blasphemy" at the closed court session and the judge did not allow Vaseghi or other defendants to present any defense or to speak at the trial. Vaseghi was sentenced to five years in prison and her sentence was eventually upheld by the Khorasan Razavi Province Appeals Court.
Rosita Vaseghi faces very difficult prison conditions at Vakilabad Prison, deprived of basic prisoner rights. Like other female Bahai prisoners at Vakilabad facility, she has limited visitation, limited telephone access, and even limited fresh air breaks. She is also deprived of access to prison library.
Rosita Vaseghi's health has deteriorated and she suffers from severe physical weakness, but prison authorities have totally disregarded her poor condition.
