Sahameddin Bouraghani: Prisoner of the day

Journalist arrested

RAHANA: Security forces arrested journalist Sahameddin Bouraghani at his home in Tehran on the eve of January 17, and transferred him to Evin Prison. After arriving his home, the forces first searched the premises. Bouraghani was alone at the time; the security forces left a note on his home's door, stating, "We took Saham and things."

Sahameddin Bouraghani wrote for the reformist Etemaad-e Melli, and was the editor for the Iranian Diplomacy website. The young journalist is the son of Ahmad Bouraghani, MP from Tehran during the 2001-2004 parliament term, and the National Press Director for the Ministry of Culture and Guidance during the Khatami era. Ahmad Bouraghani passed away on February 2, 2008 of a heart attack.

Reasons for Bouraghani's arrest and his charges are unknown at this time.

Here is a clip of him talking in a 2010 memorial ceremony for his father:

First they came for communists.....

And I did not speak out because I was not a communist

Then they came for Trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionists.

Then they came for Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew

Then they came for Catholics, and I did not speak out because I was a protestant.

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.....

Perhaps there are more journalist behind bars under IRI then behind desks to write.  This is truly shameful for any regime.  These are the young, bright and brave amoung us and they need our full support for their immediate and unconditional freedom.

My hats off to everyone of these brave fighters who have put their country ahead of themselves.

'Hambastegi' is the main key to victory

From boy to prisoner

by Jahanshah Javid on

I last saw Saham when he was a little boy. His father Ahmad was a friend and colleague of mine. I wish him him and his family well and hope he will be freed soon along with so many imprisoned simply for their thoughts.
