The Artist triumphed at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, the first ceremony in Hollywood's awards season.
Michel Hazanavicius won Best Director for The Artist. Viola Davis took home the award for Best Actress in The Help.
Sound of music star Christopher Plummer won the Supporting Actor award for Beginners and George Clooney Best Actor for his role in The Descendants.
Brad Pitt, Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams were among the Hollywood stars who turned out for the 17th annual awards ceremony.
