Faezeh Hashemi sentenced to jail

Sentenced to six-months in prison for "making propaganda"

The Guardian: The daughter of former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been sentenced to six months in jail after being found guilty of "spreading propaganda" against the country's regime. Faezeh Hashemi, a political activist and former member of the Iranian parliament whose views are close to those of the reformists, was informed of the court's verdict on Tuesday, Iran's semi-official Ilna news agency reported. "She has been convicted on charges of making propaganda against the ruling system and has been sentenced to six months in prison," Hashemi's lawyer, Gholam Ali Riahi, told Ilna. Riahi said Tehran's revolutionary court also banned Hashemi from belonging to any political parties and taking part in media or online activities for the next five years. She has 20 days to appeal.

who know?

by Siavash300 on

she may be laughing along with his dad and Khamenie on their sides to guilable people who believe this artificial scene. Highly unlikely she stays in jail for 6 months. These are political games to deceive Iranians as her father had done it for last 32 years.

If you could it would mean that like the majority of Iranian women, she only wear hejab because she is forced.

I think she has got about a month or so to appeal and most probably her sentence will be suspended on appeal. What regime wants is to silence her rather than imprison her and that's what they got.

You and Red Wine are right that nothing much will happen to her because of her connections. That however does not devalue her stance for reform and women empowerment within existing limitations.

I agree with Divaneh.

In addition to what Divaneh said, It seems that Some of us seem to believe that anybody who opposes Islamist regime must be "naab" (pure), with perfect credentials, and family history. The fact remains that the regime is far more worried (for good reasons), about people like  Faeze than 10 thousand cyber warriers like us....

Fair judgement on Faeze

by divaneh on

I think we have to judge Faeze for her own deeds rather than for her family links. She has been a positive force in Iran in my view and I wish we had more Faeze on the scene of Iranian politics. There are many other influential families whose women prefer to play the centuries old subservient woman role.
