by Joubin on Wed Jan 18, 2012 07:19 PM PST"In his speech during this 30 year old video clip, he clearly foresees the "estebdaad" of VF which is ruling our country today in shape of khaamenei. Taleghaani was against the whole concept of VF."
As some Iranian wags would have it, "ghorbuneh aghleh akhareh mosalman!". (But curious, did he ever call Khomeini "Imam"?)
Let me explain something to you hamvatan:
Ali Ibn Abu Talib was called "The Lion of God"
His martyred son was called "The Prince/Master of Martyrs"
His grandson, who penned the incomparable Psalms of Islam, was called "Jewel of the Believers".
etc.
And then fast forward to Iran and the establishment of the clerical system by Shah Abbas. The Earth was 'graced' by no less entire schools of "proofs of Islam" and "Signs of God", every single generation.
And they claim to be adherents and supporters of the cause of the above mentioned Lion, Prince, and Jewel.
//iranpoliticsclub.net/photos/arafat-IRI/imag...
(You know what the joke is, right Roozbeh Gilani?)
The cleric in the OP video finally got it. What it took was the rampant corruption of mores, manners, and spirit, in Iran Zameen. Mr. Taleghani was clearly quicker than him, but 30 years ahead given centuries of ignorance?
What he (OP) doesn't get, and you also don't get, is that the surface matter that spilled upward should not have been any surprise to any sensible human being, regardless of their belief, as it should have been understood that the entire establishment of these self congratulatory humans was a corruption of what they claimed to be following.
You think "power" came to the clergy just 30 years ago? They have had real substantial power over "the people" for centuries now. Centuries of a mixed crowd of well meaning taalebs and power hungry wolves that finally erupted in the corrupt climax that is Velayateh Faqih.

Here is a Muslim man praying to God, an Authentic Shia Imam of the Faithful, who never ever would countenance any person calling him a "Sign of God":

Priceless
by Rastgoo on Wed Jan 18, 2012 06:52 PM PSTThis exemplifies the transformation that our country has gone through as a result of the Islamic revolution. So do not despair not all these 32 years have been in vain. We have learned our lesson through direct experience rather than by force like Turkey. Other notable religious scholars include Montazeri, Kazemeini Borojerdi and Mohaqqeq Damad. These people exemplify the organic separation of church and state that is inevitable in Iran. The majority of the religious scholars in Iran have now reached this very same conclusion. Iran is the only Muslim country that has a true and deep seated desire for the separation of church and state. We should all rejoice this fact. Be patient the end is near, hopefully peacefully.

by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Jan 18, 2012 06:15 PM PSTThanks for explaining further. I think I undernad you a bit better now. So let me give you my take. I think that bundling all clregy together and blaming them for the current issues of Iran is a grave mistake. Here I am not trying to defend the clergy as much as pointing to the fact that late taleghani, as a clergy was definitely more in tune with people's demands for freedom of expression, political freedom, social justice and democratic institutions than some die hard seculars are. In his speech during this 30 year old video clip, he clearly foresees the "estebdaad" of VF which is ruling our country today in shape of khaamenei. Taleghaani was against the whole concept of VF.

by Joubin on Wed Jan 18, 2012 05:57 PM PSTI certainly did watch it; thank you for the link. Perhaps my comment was too oblique.
I do not wish to address the late Mr. Taleghani's remarks beyond noting that, certainly, if a man speaks up to clarify for his compatriots matters (such as "2+2=4, not 3, not 5, not x!") that have been made obscure (by his fellow "lecturers and doctors of mathematics") it is note worthy.
But in fairness one needs to further note that the gentleman in question was accredited his "doctorate of philosophy in Mathematics" by the same "academy" of "sciences".

Dear Ensan
by Joubin on Wed Jan 18, 2012 05:39 PM PSTTo subscribe to that view is your prerogative. It really is none of my business.
I will, however, take this opportunity to note/chide-you that a more efficient use of your 'apparatus' would have highlighted the fact that the statement in question was (clearly) addressed to the believing reader, and thus would have saved both you and myself from an irrelevant waste of our precious time.

Dear Joubin
by Ensan on Wed Jan 18, 2012 04:32 PM PSTI have got major problems with your premise. God did not give me my brain. The brain I have is a product of 3.8 billion years of evoultionary develpoment. Now if you think there is a god up there some place, either your god is ignorant or your god is just a bastard as he/she/it let's the world to be as it is. So, my good man, step away from what has been printed in your mind and do not bring the topic of religion or god into this discussion. Religion (all of them and not just islam) are the bain of humankind (Vabaseel). Think for yourself and you will reach the same conclusion. Use your head not your prejudices. Peace,
To be fair....
by Bavafa on Wed Jan 18, 2012 04:31 PM PSTHe is saying things that every one with shish klase akabr know and is saying in Iran. Perhaps the true value of it is that he has been willing to go on record about the obvious and for that he ought to be applauded.

by Ensan on Wed Jan 18, 2012 04:19 PM PSTMerci, I was impressed by him for speaking as bluntly as he did; however, for him not being there, the scale just dropped big time. An old Iranian addage says, " Neshasta lab goud, megah langesh kon". Thanks for clarification.

by Joubin on Wed Jan 18, 2012 04:00 PM PST"Ayatollah" Taleghani has passed away and I will refrain from addressing him directly.
The moral, intellectual, and spiritual integrity of any human being that assert his or her Islam is fully and completely undercut by their assent to the very idea that any man, however learned and holy, is permitted to style himself as an Ayatollah (literally Sign of God).
In the Qur'an only 2 human beings are called Ayatollah by the Author: Issa Masih Ibn Mariam and his mother, Salaam is ever upon them both.
To the believing Muslim reader who pines for the Imams of the sanctified line, a reminder that poison is the weapon of those who are near and intimate with the individual targeted for assassination.
Surely God has given you all brains. Use it (the meaning of being 'grateful').

Something to consider

Just one thing in favor of those who criticize or reform "too late". Valid (and very shocking) experiments in human psychology have proven beyond doubt that when ordinary people - like me, y'all (shoma) and maybe the cleric above (not to mention however many basiji) - get caught up in a situation where the "leaders" for reasons of their own command their followers to obediantly perform actions which are evil or which have evil consequences, the followers will almost all (90%-100%) tend to go along with authority, even when they feel "something is wrong here". In the experiments, in fact at least one person had a major psychotic breakdown because the authority figure (the experimenter) would not let them stop doing the evil action, but commanded them to continue. This may explain why many Iranians have gone along with some very bad things - they are not monsters, they are unfortunately normal. And for them, the authority was coming from those (Khomeini, Khamenei, IRGC leaders) who strongly insisted they represented God and Country (Allah/Khoda and Iran) and that anyone who was against them was themselves a God-hating, Iran-hating monster. It might make more sense to blame the psychotic or evil leaders and not the poor deluded followers. Also, the same type thing happened in Europre, 1300-1700, but much, much worse (check out the Inquisition and Witch Frenzy on the web, but not on a full stomach!)
You think he is brave?
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Wed Jan 18, 2012 01:20 PM PSTThen listen to this one, very carefuly, word by word.
He stayed in iran and died there, under very questionable circumstances. There is some evidence to suggest that he was murdered on direct orders of khomeini himself.

by MRX1 on Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:36 PM PSTShip is sinking and smart akhoonds have figured it out. so their goal is to transform themselfs and to become usefull for the next regime. Depending on the out come, folks like him will either become green (good chance for it because after all shiek o omati psychee is deept rooted in Iranain masses), or red (tiny chance but you never know may be commi's have some thing amazing yet to deliver) or secular republican or secular monarchist depending on who wins in the end.
