Path to War? Assassination, Tensions in Persian Gulf

Interview with Trita Parsi

Democracy Now: Iran says a nuclear scientist involved in its uranium enrichment program was killed by assassins in Tehran on Wednesday, becoming the latest Iranian scientist to die in a series of similar incidents. Earlier this week, Iran announced it had sentenced a U.S.-born man to death for allegedly spying for the CIA. "If we are increasing the sense of threat, we may be able to prevent [the Iranian's] capabilities to a certain extent, but we're also increasing their desire for the nuclear deterrent," says Trita Parsi, founder and president of the National Iranian American Council.

Terita Parsi might have some

by vildemose on

Terita Parsi might have some legitimate gripes but never offers any solutions. The mullahs are not interested in negotiating even if the US were to give them the "grand bragain".

Or maybe Terita has a direct line to Khamenie and knows secrets that we mere mortals don't know??

Spreading terror

by iraj khan on

Reported today:

"Whoever is responsible, the murders appear to be as much about spreading terror as they are about stopping the nuclear program. Iran has legions of capable engineers, and none of the victims appear to have had indispensable knowledge or abilities.'

I am just curious.

Over there, in your neck of the wood at Camp Parsi, are you guys allowed to once in a while disagree with what Trita says? You know, something like, “Trita you are the best chef in the world but next time please go easy on jalapeños!”

Or, do you always have to follow the marching order, no questions asked?

One last thing, are you allowed to express your own opinions here and there, or do you have to submit them to the Central Committee in advance?

Secret Deal with Iran? Germany Releases 'Mykonos' Assassins

Germany has released and repatriated two men involved in a 1992 assassination of Iranian dissidents in Berlin. A chorus of criticism follows the release both abroad and from German critics who believe it was part of a deal with Iran.

"Iran’s silence

The most curious question in the face of these incidents is why Iran, which does not shy away from threatening the world with closure of the Hormuz Straits, has failed to retaliate for the painful blows to its nuclear and missile program? After all, the Revolutionary Guards have a special arm, Quds, whose aim (among others) is to carry out terror attacks and secret assassinations against enemies of the regime overseas.

Moreover, if the Iranians do not wish to directly target Western or Israeli interests, they can prompt their agents, that is, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and other groups, to do the job. In the past, Iran did not shy away from carrying out terror attacks in Europe (in Paris and Berlin) and in South America (in Buenos Aires,) so why is it showing restraint now? ....much more

But there's a third option

by vildemose on

But there's a third option that Goldberg doesn't consider: Israel is trying to start a war with Iran. The more Iranian scientists it kills (and the more missile testing facilities it blows up), the more likely Iran is to retaliate. And things have a way of escalating, which would pave the way for military strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Obviously, Israel could bomb Iran's facilities even without such escalation. But escalation offers two advantages:

1) Israel gets less blame, because it isn't accused of starting things. Of course, from Iran's point of view, Israel did start things by assassinating Iranians and blowing up Iranian stuff. But whether assassinating foreigners is bad depends on your point of view. In the eyes of the west and especially the United States, it's terrorism when Iran does it but not when Israel or America does it.

Iran complains to UN for the terrorist attack

by iraj khan on

In a letter to the U.N. Secretary General, Iran's Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee called on the U.N. to condemn the killing and two earlier attacks that left two nuclear scientists dead and another seriously injured, in the strongest terms.

  • "There is firm evidence that certain foreign quarters are behind such assassinations. As has been claimed by these circles, such terrorist acts have been carried out as part of the efforts to disrupt Iran's peaceful nuclear program, under the false assumption that diplomacy alone would not be enough for that purpose," the letter read in part.

Wednesday's attack came almost two months after an unexplained explosion at an Iranian missile base killed a top general and 16 other people.

Question to members

by masoudA on

How do you think People like Trita, Houman Majd, Reza Aslan.......and the rest of the anti-Iran lobby goons keep being invited to these never ending shows?   Who helps them publish books left and right?  Why are they always on CNN, NBC, and NPR and never on Fox??  does'nt this all suggest there is an entity behind this guy who has ties with NBC, CNN, ABC, NPR,..... then why is it that Iranians hate Fox and the conservaties and keep falling pray to the anti-Iran gang?  I can't help but to conclude the Iranian community (at least in America) is after what they think is their best interest in America....and they are even wrong on that!!!

Roll the Dice Again Trita!

by Faramarz on

It looks like that Trita (to use his own metaphor) has rolled the dice only once and what has come up is that the world should accept the Regime as legitimate and negotiate with it and the Iranians should just suck it up and deal with it.

Roll the dice again Trita!

You will see that the regime change through strong sanctions will come up again and again. Show Hambastegi (thank you Cousin Bavafa) and join the rest of us and the Iranian people who want this regime gone.

Nuke gurantee

by Fred on

What does the lifetime president of the NIAC lobby which according to court records has a cozy working relationship with number of high officials of the Islamist Rapist Republic want?

He has lobbied for friendly relationship between America and IRR, Obama’s hand of friendship is still dangling in the air.

Does the lifetime president suggest IRR be given a guarantee to rape and murder Iranians and continue to spread international terrorism?

Does the lifetime president suggest if IRR’s rule is not guaranteed, it is entitled to have nuke?
