In today's freestyle wrestling, Iran's 60 Kg Massoud Esmaeilpoor Jouybari (from Jouybar, of course) and 120 Kg Komeil Ghasemi (from Sari) lost in the quarterfinals, but still have a chance for bronze medals through the losers' bracket.

In 84 Kg, Ehsan Naser Lashghari (from Ghazvin) lost in the semifinals to the Azeri opponent and will compete for a bronze.

Matches start at 9:45 am.

Iran ranked #51 (1 gold & 1 bronze) in the medal count at 2008 Beijing Games:

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Summer_Olympics_medal_table

At 2012 London Games, Iran ranks #14 with 10 medals!

Big improvement! It is awesome!

Lol. Faramarz. Don't be such a party pooper.

by Soosan Khanoom on

I used to have a German American boss who  took the day off and invited us all over his house to watch Germani's Soccer match at world cup ...He was cheering for the Germans.

I cheer more for the Iranians win.

Actually,  when Iran and U.S played soccer I was jumping up to the moon once the first ball hit the net.

Dont tell me you didn't

; )

Try www.hahasport.com and then scroll down to find the right broadcast. This is a bootlegger site so you get popups here and there. Go to full screen and the popups will go away. Also reload if you get frozen. It works great and you can multitask at work!

I hope that you have a decent ISP. Cheers.

More Medals on the Way!

by Faramarz on

This morning, in 60 Kg Greco-Roman wrestling, Omid Haji Noroozi defeated his opponents and mad it to the final against a Georgian opponent. The final will be at 10:46 am today. Go Omid!

Iran’s other two Greco-Roman wrestlers, 84 Kg Habibollah Jomeh Akhlaghi and 120 Kg Bashir Asgari Babajanzadeh Darzi (what’s with the long names!) were eliminated.

In Discus Throw, Ehsan Haddadi threw for 65.12 meters and qualified for the finals tomorrow (starting at 11:45 am). He has a reasonable chance at a Bronze.

In 800 meter, Sajad Moradi made it to the next round with a time of 1:48:23 which is around 3 seconds slower than the main medal contenders.

In Women’s Shot Put, Iran’s Leyla Rajabi (formerly Tatsiana Ilyushchanka of Vitebsk, Belarus) threw for 17.55 meters and was eliminated. What can I tell you about those imports!

Ahmadreza Talebian was also eliminated in 1 Km Single Kayak.

Later on this morning in 105 Kg Weightlifting, Navab Nasirshelal will take the stage (starting at 11 am).

Games are live on EuroSport and Aljazeera Sports. NBC sucks!

Yes... u guessed it...give it up for the iran GSB winner (gold, silver, bronze)

Mr. faramarz iranian.com! He claims he can do unbeliveable Elvis impressions as well:)

In front of 2000-3000 boisterous crowd of Iranians, chanting, "Iran, Iran", Hamid Souryan beat the Azeri opponent 3-0 and won the first ever gold in Greco-Roman for Iran. It was rumored that Azeri President Aliev was in attendance

After the win, Hamid Souryan did a summersault for the enthusiastic crowd
