P.C.E.D.: Miad Afshar, a Bahai studying Civil Engineering at the Bahai Open University (BIHE) and his brother Misagh Afshar, a member of the PCED [an organisation that protests discrimination in higher education in Iran], were arrested when a large number of security agents raided their home in Tehran on the morning of July 9, according to eye witnesses.
Security forces searched their home and took all their personal possessions away.
A court official at Evin Prison said that Miad Afshar has been transferred to Bandar Abbas, which is their home town.
In March this year, he was summoned to the “news” office (a euphemism for Iran’s secret service) in Bandar Abbas and threatened with arrest. On July 3, plain clothes agents appeared at his home (in Tehran) and searched his belongings, and showed a summons calling his brother Misagh Afshar to appear in court at Evin Prison on July 8.
Misagh Afshar, a senior Political Science student, was recently expelled from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. He was previously arrested by Intelligence Ministry forces in Tehran.

First Amendment
by stavackoli on Fri Jul 13, 2012 09:00 AM PDTCan you be any more nebulous please? "
Unfortunately our past experience with our honorable fellow citizens of the Bahai faith has proved to be unassuring for future discourse"? What is this supposed to mean. We have been inhumane to the Baha'is in the past and ignored their inalienable rights in the past, so in the future they should move to Israel? Do I have it right? Should we move all the African Americans back to Africa too? (although, I realize this is a terrible analogy because Baha'is unlike African Americans did not originate in Israel). Just because the government of a country ignores its own people's rights, does it mean the people should go somewhere else and take over a city and declare independence? What are you smoking? You should get a new dealer, that is some bad stuff, it is impairing your judgement seriously.

First Amendment
by stavackoli on Thu Jul 12, 2012 07:37 PM PDTFirst Amendment is a new name (or perhaps an old, recycled name) for the one who is on these blogs, always redirecting people's minds toward irrelevant issues like what Israel's government does in their country. The guys pictured above are not from Israel, they probably have never been to Israel, freedom of people of Israel from the bloody-thirsty government of Isreal, as you put it, will not do anything for these two guys to get out of a prison they do not belong in, or get them back in the school they do belong in. They are from Iran, and much to your and your beloved regime's chagrin, they're there to stay. They don't need a free Isreal, they need a free Iran, a country they were born in, one they should have citizenship rights in; or is that too much to ask?

In a free Iran, Bahai students will study in universities
by Anahid Hojjati on Thu Jul 12, 2012 08:11 AM PDTalong with Muslim students. It is a shame that many Bahai students could not ( and still cannot) go to university because of discrimination against them. To top that, IRI is arresting those bahaiis who study in their open university such as Miad Afshar. Thanks Ghorme sabzi for posting this news about Miad and Misagh Afshar.

Iranians of all walks of life taking a stand for their freedom and just rights. They are to be commanded and supported by all freedom loving folks.
Iranians need to stand united in their support for these brave souls, support their goals and aspiration for a free independent and prospers Iran.
Foreign nations which thru their apartheid policy practice the same insanity and unjust detentions cannot be a good example for the future of Iran and need not to apply.

Islamist Rapists
by Fred on Thu Jul 12, 2012 06:09 AM PDTRegime change is the only way to stop the Messianic Islamist Rapists from their never ending abuse of innocent Iranian men, women and children.
Compassion comes in many different forms; the most effective is to remove the criminal(s) from power and the ability to create more victims.
Backbreaking airtight sanctions plus air/naval quarantine is a must.
