Javad Abouali: Prisoner of the day

Student activist imprisoned for "propagation activities against the state"

CHRR: On 15 October 2011, Javad Abouali started his one-year prison term in the town of Behbahan.

The Behbahan Intelligence Office arrested Javad Abouali, a political and social activist and a student movement activist in September 2010. He was kept for months without contact with the outside world.

Branch Two of Mahshahr Revolutionary Court tried Abouali on charges of "propagation activities against the state," and "insulting the Supreme Leader," and sentenced him to 12 months in prison. The sentence was upheld at Branch 13 of Khuzestan Province Appeals Court.

Dear  virtual family, please take a moment to send this protest letter or use your own version.

Please keep in mind that as we approach Noroz, and all the festivities,  for our magnificient, most brave political prisoners there will be no festivities , apart from their family members, deprived of the most basic rights inside jails of IR. Sending a letter would take only a few moments for us, but it would mean so much for them. Many thanks in advance.

I (we) am (are) writing this to condemn persecution and incarceration  of student activists in Iran. Student activists are constantly harassed by officials of Islamic Republic.

In particular, this letter is written to express my (our) serious concern about the unjust  sentence against Mr. Javad Abouali.

Political freedom is part of the basic human rights and IRI has been violating those rights for the last 33 years.  Those who have defied IRI to exercise this basic rights are, as a result, paying a hefty price for it.  These brave students, teachers, laborers, poets and all others who have risked their livelihood to bring freedom to Iran and Iranians deserve our full support for their immediate and unconditional freedom.

  My hats off to each and every one of these brave souls.
