UNSSC: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, following consultations with the Chief Executives Board, today announced the appointment of Jafar Javan of the United States as Director of the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC). He will replace Carlos Lopes, who has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa. The Secretary-General is grateful to Mr. Lopes for his able leadership in implementing UNSSC’s mandate as the primary provider of inter-agency training and learning for staff of the United Nations system.
Mr. Javan brings a wealth of experience, having worked in the United Nations system for more than 25 years in various regions, notably Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. During his tenure in the system, his professional responsibilities have focused on policy development, education, training and employment, community development and social participation >>>
