Old in New Form...
by zensufi on Thu Dec 20, 2007 01:25 AM PSTThe topic is 800 years old, but the pictures are very modern... from the art work to the calligraphy. All interesting though.
it is original work. I find
by artful (not verified) on Wed Dec 19, 2007 04:59 PM PSTit is original work.
I find it pleasant although i cant read it!!
i did not say or even imply
by negar on Wed Dec 19, 2007 03:58 PM PSTi did not say or even imply that all of rumi's works are of the same quality. it'd be a shame if they were, because poetry is not supposed to be mass produced.
what i was suggesting in my comment is that there is no defined line between good poetry and bad poetry. and even if there is, the artist here should be allowed to make use of the bad poetry.
i don't mean to be too argumantative but if you believe that Rumi has both fine and poor poems, why would you say that this work doesn't do him justice? you're not a starry-eyed fan, are you?!
p.s. i forgot to mention that i totally agree with the kharchang ghoorbagheh comment. if that's calligraphy, i'm a calligrapher!
May I.....?
by Dis enchanted (not verified) on Wed Dec 19, 2007 10:01 AM PSTCritic is right. Rumi's poem as opposed to Hafez
has a higher "variance"! Quality fluctuates immensely and these are by far not the best of them.
But I part from critic in his/her criticism of the caligraphy! I think those colors are JUST WONDERFUL!!!!!Heaven!
Did critic cliam he/she (damn English language)
has Rumi poems memorized in entirety?!
Is that include that not so good ones?!
And last, WHAT'S UP with RUMI mania?!
Hopefully it's not just because some Hollywood "starts" discovered it too late!
Is that 1-800- old - Love a phone number or something? ;-)
have discovered it
My collection of Rumi poetry
by Critic (not verified) on Wed Dec 19, 2007 09:45 AM PSTMy collection of Rumi poetry is not, unlike yours negar, written on paper - it's committed to memory in its entirety! And if you can't see any poor poems in Rumi's work, then obviously you are still a novice or a starry-eyed fan! I know that I may sound arrogant but I couldn't help it.
critic, does your copy of
by negar on Wed Dec 19, 2007 08:45 AM PSTcritic,
does your copy of Rumi collection come with star ratings? mine doesn't and i always assumed that i should pick my own favorites.
besides, i think after 800 years Rumi's status has reached a point that it's no longer injustice to him if some of his "bad" - according to you - poetry is publicly displayed.
Poor choice of Rumi's poems
by Critic (not verified) on Wed Dec 19, 2007 07:50 AM PSTLike all things that go on display in Iran these days, the poems chosen here do not do Rumi's poetry any justice. They are among the the third (if not lower) rate poems and the caligraphy is khar-chang-ghoorbaghe. How sad!
