Faramarz, good question
by Cost-of-Progress on Mon Sep 26, 2011 09:25 AM PDTFor some people, smiling in photos would mean you are "sabok" or "jelf", and hence the serious face.
But, we have much bigger problems than this kind of hang ups....

Nice pictures but I don't like the "new" black and whites.
by Esfand Aashena on Mon Sep 26, 2011 06:19 AM PDTWhenever I see a "new" BW photo I think someone must have had some old BW films and just wanted to take some pictures and use it and end up ruining some very good opportunities for normal shots.
Or I think it is the "art" some Johnny or Jane come lately wants to shove down our throats! Not that this photographer is like that but I mean generally what I take from watching "new" BWs.

Smiling in pictures- Faramarz
by Abarmard on Sun Sep 25, 2011 03:32 PM PDTWhen we were young we took pictures normally, mostly with serious faces. In reality taking pictures and saying "cheese" to bring fake smile was a weird concept for me then. I don't mind normal pictures and see no reason for people to force an smile that a lot of times doesn't even look good :)
The think about smiling and laughing in most pictures from that side of the world is that you know it's real and looks good.
Room with an upside-down view
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Sep 25, 2011 08:24 AM PDTThis picture, simple as it is, really got my attention: (//iranian.com/main/image/159740). I would love to see works by photographers who specialize in showing things upside down.

Faramarz, about smiling: (unnecessary) hardships and (avoidable) tragedies wipe the smile off faces as Iranians approach adulthood. Plus, outward expressions of happiness, and smiling in general, are frowned upon in our society.
Sad Faces
by Faramarz on Sun Sep 25, 2011 07:42 AM PDTGreat work and many beautiful pictures.Thank you.
But why is it that in most pictures about Iran and Iranians nobody smiles? Only the children smile. There is just too much sadness all around.
