When I was in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago my uncle Bahman gave me a CD of Iran Darroudi's paintings. I could not figure out how to use the CD, but I went to her website, irandarroudi.com, and found these wonderful paintings. There are only a handful of living Iranian artists as well-known as Iran Darroudi. This is why! -- Jahanshah Javid

Iran's best

There are so many great new female painters in Iran these days. But, I think Darroudi remains Iran's best female painter. I have had the good chance to see some of her work in exhibitions, and they are so much more breathtaking than pictures of it.

Her allegorical plays on color and light are absolutely breathtaking. God grant her a long life, for the benefit of humanity’s soul. She is a jewel of Iran and a magnificent contribution to the world of arts.

She is talented, however, I find her paintings to be depressive, desolate and cold. I don't like looking at them.
