I am shopping for a green scarf and will be wearing it
by Hovakhshatare on Thu Dec 10, 2009 12:23 PM PSTWhat can I say? Majority of the real strength and role models in my life have been women. including my wife. The women of Iran are teaching the men how to rise. And setting a precedent in street protests that shall be a future methodology to be followed by other movements around the world. Books on this will yet be written. Masih is a sample

Gentlemen: Nice show of Solidarity!
by Monda on Thu Dec 10, 2009 11:11 AM PSTTo be fair, I need to share something with our lamenting ladies:
Back in the late 80's, my cousin and two friends being outraged by the hejaab laws, in solidarity with their girlfriends and other female loved ones, wore black veils and slogans around the streets of Tehran in hope to attract more men to their mission. Within less than an hour all three full bearded men were taken in. Beaten up and isolated for 3 weeks, they had to sign to never repeat their foolish unruliness. They were threatened by the lives of those very women whom they loved and meant to protect.
One left Evin paralyzed from waist down, one walks around LA with a prosthetic leg and the luckiest left with fractured head, shoulder and hip.
It was a matter of life and death, Ladies.
Organized protests en mass didn't exist until this year. Iranian men and women had not reached their boiling points to this degree. And it's not over Hejaab - but as we all know it's about IRI's barbaric abuse of power.
I want to be hopeful about a secular republic.
Iranian men have definitely supported women
by sima on Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:43 AM PSTThe smart ones of course -- the ones who matter! I'm just pointing out a little irony... As Irandokht says, better late than never!
Anyways, I love picture 10.
Thanks Mr. Javid

Men have not supported women?
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:05 AM PSTSima, I disagree. Iranian men have been more supportive of women's rights than at any point in our history. "We are all Neda" is slogan widely embraced by men and women. Shirin Ebadi has been widely supported by men. Men have played a significant part in the One Million Signatures Campaign for Equality. We haven't forgotten "you".

by IRANdokht on Thu Dec 10, 2009 10:05 AM PSTI understand and agree with your comment, but I'd say better late than never. I am hoping what happened to Tavakoli was the tipping point and hopefully translated to a step forward for our men. I want to be optimistic. ;-)

Awesome!!
by IRANdokht on Thu Dec 10, 2009 09:58 AM PSTI just posted a news item on this campaign too and saw the same picture here.
Thank you gentlemen!

Thank you gentlemen
by sima on Thu Dec 10, 2009 09:55 AM PSTThis is a worthy effort. But slightly ironic in the eyes of Iranian women... You would do this in solidarity with one man but you have had thirty years to do it in solidarity with millions of women and you never thought of it!
Most brilliant campaign
