Son of the Assyrian writer Rabi Adai Alkhas, Hannibal was born in Kermanshah, Iran, in1930. His uncle, John Alkhas, is one of the two most famous Assyrian poets in the 20th century.
Hannibal spent his childhood and teenage years in Kermanshah, Ahvaz and Tehran. In 1951, he moved to the United States in pursuit of his education and studied philosophy for three years at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
