Freezing for health

Photo essay: Creative demonstration in support of health care reform

I was waiting to meet some friends for lunch at a restaurant inside the Ferry Building in San Francisco a few days ago. I got there 15 minutes early. It was a mild sunny day. The gray skyscrapers looked nice against thin clouds in the blue sky. I started taking some pictures. After a few snapshots I looked behind me and saw a group of people holding a piece of paper in their hand. They appeared to be in motion so I thought they were going somewhere. I didn't pay attention. A few seconds later I was again looking in their direction and it was only then that I noticed they were frozen. What I was looking at was an artistic expression of support for healthcare reform. It was not your usual political demonstration. No one shouted slogans. They weren't throwing fists in the air. But because they were pretending to be frozen in time, they attracted attention -- more people looked at them and their message. Their creativity and passion impressed me. I promised to give them coverage.
