Future Leaders

Photo essay: Camp Ayandeh builds community with kids

Last week I spent a couple of days in Belmont, attending Camp Ayandeh organized by Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB). Camp Ayandeh is a leadership camp for Iranian American high school students. I want to be very careful and not sound corny here, but isn't it possible that whenever we see a group of our youth like this, we could quite possibly be looking at the future leaders of their communities, cities, and states? Couldn't most of them go on to become politicians, professionals, artists, and, hey, what do you know, maybe even the president of the United States of America?! The Camp is held annually in the summer in different states around the country. This year it's held at Notre Dame de Namur University in Northern California. The number of participants in the camp has grown steadily over the past five years. They started with 19 campers and now they have 85 campers from over 30 US states. It lasts one week and the kids who are freshmen to graduating seniors (13 to 18) stay in dormitories >>> Part 1 >>> Part 2

Getting the word out...

by Nazy Kaviani on

Thank you Jahanshah Jan, Obama Jan, MPD Jan, Yolanda Jan, and Monda Jan!

Aren't those young Iranians just beautiful? I think IAAB has done a very good job of establishing itself as a positive organization managed by young Iranians for young Iranians. Camp Ayandeh is only one of the good things the organization does. This fall they will have a Student Summit in Washington DC for Iranian American college students. I think we should all support this grassroots organization that aims to help our youth and the Iranian community in the US.

Thanks again for your kind comments.

Dear Obama:

If you go here:

//iranianalliances.org/camp

you will see what they say about this year's camp costs:

"Camp Ayandeh is open to rising high school students through rising college freshmen through an online application process. Application forms, as well as instructions, can be found on IAAB’s Application page. There are also a limited number of need-based and merit-based tuition stipends available which require a separate application, also found on the Applications page. Camp fees, including room, board, and inclusion in all activities during the week of camp, as well as transportation between NDNU and San Francisco International Airport, are $725 until April 5th."
