Getting the job done

Photo essay: Watching the Spain-Holland match in Budapest

I watched most World Cup matches at bars or in my place in Budapest. But for the final I joined hundreds of Hungarians in colorful summer outfits in an outdoor stage by one of the biggest malls. Spain were so disciplined and so focused on getting the job done that they ultimately got the victory they have so deserved with their brilliance throughout the tournament. It was a beautiful victory. Thanks for a very memorable World Cup! (Who's coming with me to Brazil for WC 2014?)

FYI/Protocol be damned: how Juan Carlos became the cuddly king

Spain's King Juan Carlos on Monday thanked the country's national team for winning the World Cup for the first time at a reception for the 23-man squad at his palace in Madrid.

From the game, I remember the contacts

by Anahid Hojjati on

I watched this game with few friends. It seemed that  every few minutes, two players would collide, at times one holding his chest or falling on ground, being in pain. Highlights of the game for me were #14 from Spain, display of happiness by Spain's goalie after the win, good performance from both goalies, all clashes which showed how Soccer can be violent too (intentional and unintentional).

Next best to being there

What I saw too aside from obvious skill, was Spain's mere determination to win. They were truly inspiring, huge moral boosters for their country men and everyone else watching.
