100 meter dash
by Hamshahri (not verified) on Thu Dec 06, 2007 03:47 PM PSTThere is a true story recounted by Mr. Manoochehri and it goes something like this:
“Mr Hawker was the head of physcal education at the Abadan technical school. One day during a track meet at the start of the 100 meter dash he announced something like the following:
“Since unfortunately I’ve misplaced the starting gun, when I say the word 'go' I want you all to start running."
At this point one of the students (Mr. Mirazimi) said aloud in his Esfahani accent: “Aghaay-e Hawker migooyand vaghti kalameyeh ‘goh’ az halgham biroon aamdad shomaa hamegi bedaveed.”
Hawker who spoke fluent Farsi was not amused.
