Many of your photos capture the meaning of that day. I can't remember all my favorites but your #18 is my
screen saver for the timebeing. I wish I could be there to feel the celebration more closely.

very nice. loved #44.

the veracity, humility, grounded-ness of this President--the audacity of hope--coming after the shoddiness of the last 8 years, far out weighs the color of his skin.

that said, sure, 1st black president is significant.

now we wait the 1st woman president, 1st jewish/muslim/buddist president, 1st naturalized-citizen president (arnold anyone?), 1st gay president (who wants to be 1st lady!?), 1st teenage president, 1st mutant-ninja turtle president, 1st single president, 1st virgin president, 1st iranian-american persident?, 1st president to use an aftabeh! ...

all these will come to pass. and in iran and the middle east we'll still be at each other's throat, waging petition wars on the use of 'arabian gulf', calling each other names (shahollai, mollatocracy, etc.), while JJ continues to make tons of money everytime we click a page! ( :) )

BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL !

by Darius Kadivar on

Regardless of what one may individually think of the new Administration's policy be it in its favor or against it what is certain is that we have lived a truly historical moment in the history of America. What will be Obama's political or intellectual legacy in 4 years or even 8 years time ) if re elected) is secondary to the historical significance of his victory: One of American Democracy at Large.

This was long due for the Black constituency but also for ALL ethnic minorities at large.

I am proud to have voted for the American Presidential Elections a Very First for me and particularly for Change as expressed by our President Barak Hussein Obama. I may be driven to be dissappointed or at odds with his decisions if I feel that they do not serve my other half ( Iranian side) in the future or maybe on the contrary may be satisfied. But that will have no effect on the fact that this is no ordinary election nor is Mr. Obama's Presidency insignificant in the history of the United States but also in extension that of the World because of What America has represented in terms of Human Democratic aspirations.

I am certain that Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and most probably even George Washington have returned in their grave and are having a Party in Heaven.

As the American Revolutionary of French Heritage and also a French Aristocrat who served his King Louis XVIth: Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette The American Revolution was a Beacon of Hope for Mankind and Civilization at large. One that would inspire men in the centuries to come as a reference of social responsability and accountability in assuming their common destiny and individual dignities.

ALL MEN ARE BORN EQUAL !

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA AND HIS BEAUTIFUL FAMILY!

Great, expressive pictures. You captured the mood and spirit of an historic day and turned it into art.
