Photo essay: Chichen Itza pyramids, Mexico

by Jahanshah Javid
10-Jan-2011

Wikipedia: Chichen Itza is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya civilization located in the northern center of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the Yucatán state, present-day Mexico. Chichen Itza rose to regional prominence towards the end of the Early Classic period (roughly 600 AD). Edward Herbert Thompson dredged the Cenote Sagrado from 1904 to 1910, and recovered artifacts of gold, jade, pottery, and incense, as well as human remains. A recent study of human remains taken from the Cenote Sagrado found that they had wounds consistent with human sacrifice >>>

I have many notes/videos of many trips I have made in these lands, someday I will share everything and anything I've seen with the Iranians, especially the new generation.

Perfect swim, no vortex

That waterhole on a hot summer day, kids in tow, after long solo climb of those steps. is one place in my head that I tend to visit when I feel heated with thoughts. Enjoyed your photos JJ.

Solo: Hope you get well soon. You should visit Mexico more often and avoid the resorts as much as possible. There's so much amazing history, culture and art here away from the beach.

Red Wine: You should write about your experience. You have a lot of insight and information to offer about the magic of Chichen Itza. One wonders how different it would have been if the Spanish invasion had not taken place and these native cultures had survived. They have survived in a way. The people certainly have. But still, only a shadow of the past.

Anahid: Thanks! You're welcome!

Faramarz: The clock is ticking. The Mayan priest confirmed to me that in 2012 the world would come to and end and I would become completely bald :D

End of the World in 2012

Great pictures as always JJ and I hope that you bought some of the masks. They are the coolest thing for Halloween parties!

As you know Maya predicted that the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012.

Did you get any inside information that it is still the case? I have a few things to take care of between now and then and will need some confirmations! Thanks.

The first time I went there, I was not able to control my emociones.then i was with the great Jean Paul Missou and we were there to accompany a Spanish group and they found a large pit of spanish soldiers and Mayan people of the great King ! still I can not forget what I've seen.

For some mysterious reason, a few ppl in french channel tv have never let Jean Paul issues this TV show and the thing has been forgotten and then we undrestood that the original tapes have been stolen! .. a mystery!

Thanks for the pictures Jahanshah jan, a real professional.

This essay really cheered me up - being cooped up at home, sick and all. Such vibrant colors and that magnificent water hole, hopefully with no vortex.
