Lots of Water and Lots of Wine

Photo essay: Niagara Falls -- the Canadian side

by Shazde Asdola Mirza
08-Oct-2012

I like the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The American side feels unsafe and unfriendly. One can walk the Canadian streets any time of the day or night … American streets, we only dare to drive through. I don’t like places where I can’t walk. There is a whole lot of water in Niagara Falls Ontario, and a whole lot of wine. Perhaps the global warming is helping us, because the wine industry has grown substantially since the first commercial winery started here in 1979 … just as the last wineries closed in Iran.

Dear Maziar: my phone camera "ghabel shoma ro nadareh".

Divaneh jan: you certainly know the physiology of IRI goons well.

Solo dear: quiet mind is thankfully still eluding me, despite all our aluminum pots and pans!

Good news

Shazde Jan,

Good to hear that you are enjoying the benefits of solo travel. Do you think you are getting close to destination 'quiet mind'?  Hint: The closer you get to it, the farther it may seem. :)

I love the Falls.

That must be it

You got its Shazde, they must use it for their headache or to help strengthen their neck. It may also be used to deal with the side effects of their hairy women.

And you may be right to mention their affection for Viagra; because strangely enough, since this 3rd wave started coming in 2009: many Iranian stores are openly advertising the sale of Viagra!

I don't know why. Perhaps many of these FOB people have been dickheads in IRI, and mean to treat their headache with that pill?

Buffalo is a depressing place

by Anonymous Observer on

It sucks!  My take on the Niagra Falls situation is that it is more natural and undisturbed on the U.S. side, and more commericialized, Orlando like on the Canada side.  In any event, don;t waste your time trying to visit Buffalo.  There's REALLY nothing to see there.

Shazde Jaan tell them it's not Niagra, it's Viagra

by divaneh on

Dear Shazde I have heard that those IRI chronies who live in Canada keep going to the waterfall and bottle its water for later use. Please tell them it's not Niagra, it's Viagra.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos.

Faramarz jan: Buffalo must be the most depressing place in US

by Shazde Asdola Mirza on

Come to think of how the yanks have turned "Beau Fleuve" into such a slum, boils my loyalist blood. If anyone is upset about where they live, just pay a visit to downtown Buffalo ... preferably at night!

Solo jan,

I had always disliked Niagara Falls, since the first time I set eyes on her some 22 years ago. Don't know why, but 10 more visits: spring, summer, autumn and even winter; couldn't change my view.

Yet, this visit was different. Don't know why. Perhaps because I was flying solo, for the first time, over the Falls.

I am discovering that there is something nice about solitude. I was always afraid of it. Couldn't let any time of day go by without hanging with someone, having coffee with another, chatting, phoning ...

Perhaps we can see things more enjoyably, flying solo.

Thanks for the pictures and I would say to those who want to take their lives in a dramatic way, just get in a barrel and go down the Niagara Falls!

They'll make the 5 O'clock news in Buffalo!

Barrel

by Flying Solo on

Shazde Jan,

I half expected to see a picture of you in a barrel barreling down the falls.  What? No "Maid of the Mist" close up?  And those long plastic blue cloaks.  Or have they gotten rid of them now? How about the main drag in Niagara on the lake and the all year round Christmas store. The Buttery. Horse drawn carriages. Prince of Wales hotel, Shaw Festival.  And the ice-wine.  Ah. Memories

Great pics.

Not using that phone camera again!

by Shazde Asdola Mirza on

Dear Amir, thanks for the Whine Wine bit. But honestly, I am upset with the picture quality, and won't use that phone camera again. The scenes were 100 times more beautiful, and I am sorry not to have captured them better.

Nice Pictures, Thanks for Sharing.

I heard the IRI was great at producing whines, to replace the wines they banned. Oh My !
