by Anonymousss (not verified) on Thu Oct 02, 2008 10:42 AM PDTJJ, a while ago before you even make up your mind about this move, I suggested you should move to mexico and find youself a nice mexican wife and so on....I have to say I am really sorry for writing my second suggestion, I did not know that you have only been single for a couple of years. Not sure why, but I thought you were divorced for at least more thatn 10-12 years now. I hope the articles in (#30 &39) are left from your wife unless you have a secret life that we don't know about. Good to see you are wearing comfortable shoes on your trip(#25)//iranian.com/JahanshahJavid/2005/January/Guests/38.html
thanks, Kaveh
by American Wife on Thu Oct 02, 2008 10:00 AM PDTOk... now I've got to go home and change clothes. I've just sprayed Diet Dr. Pepper all over my shirt, keyboard, and worse... a stack of invoices. What a visual...LOL
Funny little memory... after my sister's wedding reception, the hard cores weren't ready to wind it down. We loaded up the last of the booze and what food we could salvage to head to a friends house... my brother-in-law was in the lead and when the group was ready to go, he stood and leaned out the car circling his hands yelling "wagon's ho" and this 10-car entourage starting driving down the road.... people leaning out of windows yelling and generally disturbing the peace...lol.

by Kaveh Nouraee on Wed Oct 01, 2008 10:20 AM PDTI can picture the entourage now.
Since it's So-Cal, the entourage will consist of Mercedes-Benzes, BMWs, Lexus, and Toyotas (Camrys, Avalons & Priuses)
Car stereos will be blasting music from Googoosh, KIRN-AM radio 670 will have a reporter doing a live remote report from the exit at Jamboree Road.
The CHP will be ticketing people for grilling kabobs in the HOV lane, and there will be a one of those sign twirlers for Wholesome Choice at the Culver exit.
Then there will be some poor sap who will wave the IRI's flag and have the living daylights kicked out of him by the rest of the crowd, who will be waving the imperial flag.

by American Wife on Tue Sep 30, 2008 09:57 AM PDTIt's Gaelic... Irish... my avatar is the Irish flag. My father's family is from a small town in western Ireland in County Mayo. And no, I don't speak Gaelic but I do know a few phrases. Like the children of the many ex-patriots from Iran who were born in the US and elsewhere, I've lalways longed to go to Ireland. I feel that tie just as you do for your hamvatans.
Thanks for asking!
See you in a few I hope
by Monda on Tue Sep 30, 2008 09:20 AM PDTI hope that you are not gone for good or even for a long time. Hey wait a minute I thought I read your blog saying that you'd leave mid Oct but starting your journey sooner sounds good too.
Reading the comments left for you so far, I'm reminded of the mindset we all share that loss or (I prefer) letting go is a sad thing. It's NOT! You have many unknowns coming at you during and after your move which keep you engaged and excited. I swear if I had a sister like yours I'd moved to Chihuahua yesterday, at least for a few months. Moving rejuvenates the mind and soul. Unfortuantely not that many people set up their lives to take the opportunity that you are taking. And for that I envy you.
BTW I do hope you bubble-wrapped all those cool paintings or at least protected them in blankets. And thanks for sharing the photos of your apartment! (I like what Ali P. said:o))
I wish you a fantastic trip down to Mexico!

Throw out EVERYTHING and start new.

by bahaar (not verified) on Mon Sep 29, 2008 09:55 PM PDTI am one of those displaced Iranians in Diaspora who Nazy Kaviani speaks of. I can honestly say you’ve changed my life more than any other person I’ve never met. I live in the middle of Iowa’s cornfields, dar anboh’e ghorbat o tanhaee, away from my family. Obviously, I have no support here. When I first logged onto your site, I had just gone through a long divorce, I had $80.00 in my bank account, and my son was living with his father. The only thing I had to look forward to was Iranian.com. Your website, your greatest work, opened the window of hope and vision for me. When I saw other Iranians and read about their achievements and success, I slowly started building up my confidence and continued my battle for my son. But I digress.
There were many a lonesome night when I sat in front of the computer depressed, and left an hour later with a light heart and a clear soul. I always found (and still do find) something that touched my heart. I would listen to a song that felt just right, read about an Iranian women in similar shoes, and somehow these small things gave me the courage to feel hope. Up to now I thought, “This is my story and I don’t need to share it with anyone.” After seeing your photo essay, I felt I needed to thank you for the gift of hope that you’ve given so many of us. So thank you, Jahanshah, for putting the last thirteen years your life towards something intangible. I felt I needed to let you know that even though you can’t look at or touch your work as a whole, it helped me more than I cared to admit.
But I know there is order to your madness!
by Nazy Kaviani on Mon Sep 29, 2008 07:34 PM PDTJahanshah:
You have created drama in this post to good effect! Heeh! People might have difficulty relating to the life an artist lives. I don't. I can understand perfectly well the life of an artist who has better things to do with his time than to clean up! Knowing you and your popularity among your friends, also, I know the demands on your time to attend functions and events and parties once your grueling work on the site ends each day. You just don't have time to tidy up!
I'm glad you finally cleaned up. Now you will have a whole new den to mess up and neglect, no worries! Forget about the mess, the landlord, and the sad memories you are leaving behind. Think ahead to the wonderful new experiences, friendships, and relationships you will be building soon, on top of the existing ones you have all over the world. Think of your family's loving presence around you, caressing you and giving you energy to do even better soon.
You are special in so many different ways, loved, revered, trusted, and respected by so many. There will always be a group of people who will miss your visits, your calls, and the carefree get-togethers only you can liven up in your own quiet ways.
I am glad you are leaving what pains you behind and going to pursue things which you couldn't find here. We will be hanging around, waiting for you to come back to visit or to stay. You must remember the true measure of your life's personal and professional achievements is in the order and harmony you have given your life to create among thousands of displaced Iranians in diaspora. That is what you can keep and cherish wherever in this shrinking world you decide to set up that den. The rest are just "things" which can be replaced, dumped, and shipped.
Bon Voyage and be safe my friend.
Dear JJ , It saddened me to see how sad you lived.
by Tahirih on Mon Sep 29, 2008 06:57 PM PDTMy son is very good looking and when I get mad at him for not doing well at school I tell him" match your grades with your looks" ,I will use the same analogy here and give you a tough love advice , My dear creative editor in chief of Iranian . com, " please match your living with your creativity".
Sorry for your loss,
Best of luck with your move, and future.
