Modern blend
Photo essay: 2009 Spring/Summer Collection

Masih Zad 06-Mar-2009
Iran born fashion designer Masih Zad may be in his early twenties, but his youthful designs don’t neglect his Persian culture. In fact, they honor some of the best cultural art traditions of Iran, including Persian calligraphy, while blending them with modern tailoring. While his suits and other high end fashion pieces look very western, the Masih Designs line is largely influenced by Persian art.
Masih was born in Esfahan in 1984, a city known for its art scene, so he was exposed to things like the intricacy of Persian weaving techniques in antique rugs. In fact, when he was only 13, he started making his own rugs, using traditional methods. His work is inspired by Persian masters like Kamalolmolk, Ali Reza Abbassi, Behzad, Arjangi and Seirafian.
“Masih’s sole purpose and dream is to disseminate Persian art throughout the world by presenting one of the facets of Persian culture,” his site explains. “He has surrendered his soul to this lofty cause, and consequently the uniqueness of his work, along with the singular aspects of it, sets him apart as a pioneer in this art.”
The gallery shows some examples of this, highlighting key pieces from his 2009 Spring/Summer Collection. Note the details on pieces like the men's black tuxedo.: it’s full printed with ancient Persian calligraphic script.

No Originality
by AnonymousBaad (not verified) on Mon Mar 09, 2009 10:28 AM PDTTake a look at yourselves everyone, don't get too full of yourselves just yet, all of his mens designs, shirts, T shirts and suites are works that others and I must say Italian/French desingers have already done. Just adding a line of Persian caligraphy or Hakhamaneshi prints to things does not make it new and ground breaking. Frankly it all looks so Guido for god sake. Yikes!!!
Shiney gelled hair and tight body fitting suites, sorry guys even in the relm of design especially faggy metrosexual gender bending trends on the day, it's nothing special or new...
Wish him well but maybe mixing western and traditional eastern styles can blossom in the future but this just ain't it!!!!

I bet it will be too expensive and too exclusive for only few who can afford in this dire global economy of depression and joblessness--
Nice!
