I only saw a few pictures of women with alot of make up...
Just trying to look feminine
by Nazanin A (not verified) on Sat Oct 04, 2008 06:20 PM PDTI hate it when some people on iranian.com always see and interpret things from a political stand of point. Why can we not accept the fact that most of these ladies just want to look beautiful for the same reason we spend some, in not most, of our time in front of the mirror.
With all due respect I think
by skatermom (not verified) on Fri Oct 03, 2008 07:26 PM PDTWith all due respect I think your comment of some of these women being disgusting is rather harsh. These women live in a climate where they have no creative outlet. They can't necessarily be bold in style. The only thing they can expose is their face. Perhaps for the Iranian woman makeup is the only medium and a way of rebellion against a regime that doesn't allow it. I for one am not an advocate for the Presilla Queen of the Desert look but whatever. It's their statement. I'm sure if they had the freedom to be hip and stylish I'm sure they'd choose the latter and forgo the rouge.
Some of these women are disgusting.
by Kourosh shahidi (not verified) on Fri Oct 03, 2008 11:11 AM PDTwhy on earth are iranian women so addicted to heavey use of makeup? They look like a mix of arabs and americans, neither of these peoples have any style. they are infact famous for their lack of style.
Now in these pictures, they are either fully hejabed or they are drowning in make up. As an iranian i ask why isnt there a normal woman in these pictures? The middle. The woman that wears the hejab moderately because she HAS TO and doesnt use tons of make up.

Two Distinctive Cultures
by Be Real (not verified) on Thu Oct 02, 2008 03:25 PM PDTTwo Distinctive Cultures: One modern forward looking (Persianj/Iranian) and the other backward looking (Islamic/Mecca).
Persians/Iranians can not fool themselves any longer.

Sick and tired of this nasty Paris and their ever pissed off inhabitants.
The title is not making any
by Anonymous... (not verified) on Thu Oct 02, 2008 01:59 PM PDTThe title is not making any sense. It does not convey the essence or the message of the pictures.
A better title
by Asghar_Massombagi on Thu Oct 02, 2008 01:20 PM PDTperhaps would've been Opposites Clash or Clash of Opposites. There's a range of women here and not all complimentary. They're just women trying to be themselves. My favourite is the 059. It's so defiantly and erotically angry.
Shooooshi!
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Oct 02, 2008 09:31 AM PDTI corrected OPPOSITES... Thank you, my official spell-checker :o)
Now Imagine...
by eroonman on Thu Oct 02, 2008 08:53 AM PDTDavoodi's pictures are always great, because they almost always spark thoughts and occasionally a good discussion.
These seem to ask: "How much better/happier/hopeful/confident/defiant would these women look, if you took away the international 21st century symbol of women's continued oppression!
Some of these pictures seem to be violating peoples’ privacy
by Fatemeh (not verified) on Thu Oct 02, 2008 08:04 AM PDTDuring my latest trip to Iran (summer 2008), I heard many women being concerned about their pictures being taken and posted online without their consent. Some of these pictures seem to be of that nature. We may like it or not, but many ladies in Iran would not desire their pictures from private or “ladies only” gatherings to be showing up on the world wide web for all to see and I think we should respect that. I have seen many pictures of this kind on Iranian.com and I am sure that the subjects of some of these pictures would be outraged if they where made aware of the fact that their pictures from private gatherings have been posted online. I remember when Ali Dayi was outraged when his wedding pics became public. I would ask the moderator of Iranian.com to be a little more sensitive about such privacy issues. I know he thinks that nothing is sacred but I think peoples' privacy rights are indeed very sacred.
What an eye!

The title
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Oct 01, 2008 08:30 PM PDTIrandokht, Nader Davoodi's own title for this series is "Breaking the Rules". I have used that title before -- actually I think it was for a similar series by Nader. So I didn't want to repeat it. And then I thought of "Breaking out" or "Breaking away"... but I think they are also spent titles and not too original. Then I thought the common thread in these photos is the attraction to whatever the authorities officially oppose or frown upon. And therefore... Opposits attract. Does that make sense?
Call me bias, But Iranian

I don't get it
by IRANdokht on Wed Oct 01, 2008 05:30 PM PDTwhat does the title refer to? Maybe I am just dense?
Despite Xerxes' claim that these are the great people of IR, I think most of the pictures showed the great iranian women who are resisting and fighting the restrictions that are forced on them by IR.
Great pictures but I just didn't show attraction...
