Photo essay: People treated us with real warmth

Our axis of evil holiday was mostly about architecture but inevitably a lot about people, food, traffic, politics...i.e. travel. We came out of isfahan in love with the city, the food, and the people - at least when they were not driving! we recommend Isfahan to everyone. It is an easy place to be a tourist and safe, apart for the traffic - something very disturbing happens when Iranians get behind the wheel. All the people we met were kind and a great many of them treated us with real warmth and interest - I have only ever experienced such hospitality once before, in Damascus. (Texas comes third).

Nice Pictures ...but

I wish people didn't put the "descriptions" over the pictures. It can be put under the pictures so it doesn't reduce the beauty of pictures. Even Iranian TV stations in America do this!
They have a screen with the main film, then they have large channel logo and name on the lower left, a commercial ad on the lower right, the photographer's name on the upper right and a news-ticker board on the upper left, so there's 40% of screen left for the film itself!

Thanks. Quite comprehensive. Since I'm not allowed to go, at least I get to see the pics. Sad too see these "names"  they`ve put on these historic sites.

Thank you for these magnificent pictures. You are obviously a great photographer; these pictures really showed the architectural details of the mosques and the city. I could sense the calmness of sitting in the mosque and just watching all of the details through the lens of your camera.

You are very kind to share them with us. I am happy that you were greeted with the Persian hospitality that we all cherish.

What a nice family, and how brave of them to take their beautiful baby along for the visit!This is a remarkable collection of photographs and comments about Isfahan, the likes of which are rare. It is so clear that it is an artist's view into the architectural gems that Isfahan architecture offers. On picture 41, he says:

“Imam Khomeini square as seen from the roof of the bazaar. This should give a sense of the size of the place. Guide books and guides alike will tell you that this is one of the largest squares in the world. I am sure that is one of the least interesting facts about the place.”

Now, here's someone who has seen the true essence of the place. Good for him and good for us to have a chance to see Isfahan again through his lens. Thank you for sharing.

FYI - the builders of majority of these mosques were Immigrant / recruited Armenians.. Shah Abbas moved Architects and Builders from Armenia.

It makes me sad to know that we are not making homes that are our identity. Look at the picutre 71 and imagine if the majority of our homes had identity of this home, which is Iranian origin. Now we just copy paste the homes, that are shapeless and don't represent us, our culture, and our history.
