Photo essay: 16th Century map of Persia in Florence

by Jahanshah Javid

I was in Florence a few days ago. During a tour of the Palazzo Vecchio, I was thrilled to see a 16th century map of Persia. There were many names I recognized. Like Mazandaran and Gilan; Caspian Sea and Hormuz; Shiraz and Kerman, Parthia and Shush, spelled in Italian of the day. Yes, and the Persian Gulf, too! Here's Wikipedia's description of the map room: "The Hall of Geographical Maps or Wardrobe is where the Medici Grand Dukes kept their precious belongings. The cabinets and carved ceiling are by Dionigi Nigetti. The doors of the cabinets were decorated with 53 remarkable maps of scientific interest, oil paintings by the Dominican monk Fra Ignazio Danti (1563-1575), brother of the sculptor Vincenzo Danti, and Stefano Buonsignori (1575-1584). They are of great historical interest and give a good idea of the geographical knowledge in the 16th century." Go crazy!

Despite their technological limitations, these cartographers managed to construct an extremely accurate map.

As far as the naming goes, do you really need 16th century Italian  references?  Isn't the UN enough?

This dispute is really between the Arabs and Iran.  Why do we need to show them an Italian/British/French map?  Why isn't an old arab map enough?  Oh that's right, we need to rely on a "white guys" references because they are the ultimate authority on everything, right?

:D

75 MILLIONS PERSIANS BOYCUTT FOX NEWS TAMPERING PERSIAN GULF

by zuruz on

All 75 millions Persians/ Iranians worldwide should immidiately boycott FOX NEWS/FALSE NEWS for fabrication, falsification and Publication of the ancient PERSIAN GULF.

The FOX NEWS or FALSE NEWS published its own version of the latest discovery regarding the LOST CIVILIZATION UNDER PERSIAN GULF study and discovery by worlds famous Archeologists, Scientists and Anthropologists via hundreds of websites and world media. For that discovery report FOX NEWS/ FALSE NEWS used an 18 century ancient map of the historical PERSIAN GULF which has been intentionally and cowardly falsified, forged, fabricated and erased or whiten out the words P E R S I A N part of it as you see in following link:

//www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/08/lost-civilization-persian-gulf/

Only the GULF part of that map is still there.  It is done very obviously so that a 2 years old kid could tell the 18 century map has been fabricated and forged recently. Of course there are thousands of similar or more ancient maps of the PERSIAN GULF are still available worldwide. What is more troubling for map visitors is that under neat of the 18 century map printed the ILLEGAL& FAKE term of a.r.a.b.i.a.n gulf instead of thousands years old the PERSIAN GULF by corrupt, irresponsible, unprofessional author or authors. That warning sign tells all white folks that they descended from Arabs who are considered as blacks. FOX NEWS blamed the falsified and tampered map to Wikimedia and Wikimedia blamed it on UAE so called stupid museum! I  don’t know how much that falsification & fabrication and publication of the Persian Gulf map by FOX NEWS as it seems cost for some greedy Arabs like 50 years old little sheikdom UAE with 50% Persian population? Perhaps Fox News is awaiting for a huge lawsuit for forging and fabricating the United Nations legal and historical document that has been internationally recognized and registered by the UNITED NATIONS as PERSIAN GULF which the US is a significant member of that world body.
