U.S. travel writer-broadcaster spends 10 days in Iran
Rick Steves (
ricksteves.com) writes European travel guidebooks and hosts travel shows on U.S. public television and public radio. In May, Rick spent 10 days in Iran, filming a TV show (which will air in early 2009). It was an eye-opening trip for Rick, and an important chance to open the door a bit wider to cultural understanding between our countries...or at least between reasonable people who live under two governments locked in an escalating war of words. Here is a little
slideshow of some of the people, places and moments that have delighted Rick on this trip, strictly from a traveler's point of view.

Now I am a total Rick Steve's fan!
by T. Nia, Esq. (not verified) on Thu Jan 22, 2009 07:17 PM PSTI didn't know about Rick Steves or his travel tours or shows on TV and NPR. I was turning the channel last night and saw Iran on LA's KCET and as a Persian-American, naturally I paused. My first reaction was: "Wow! How much did that camera cost?" I gotta tell you that the quality of the picture is amazing and like none other that I have seen taken in Iran. As I saw more, I realized his portray of the people is super friendly and I felt that finally we have someone in addition to Thomas L. Friedman of the N.Y. Times who views Iran in this positive light. I enjoyed Rick Steve's Iran immensely and look forward to seeing more of his travel shows.

Rick, I am sorry that you had to visit that beautiful land with a stupid regime. Now you know how sad the situation is.

by Anonym7 (not verified) on Fri Aug 29, 2008 07:17 PM PDTNot only for those who are not from Iran, but also for those who are from Iran traveling can open mind!
Many Iranians who speak with hatred about Iran will have less or no hatred if they visit the country .... even with all the issues and problems that exist there.

You can feel the friendship and sincerity from the smiley faces of everyone in these pictures. Thanks to Rick Steves for showing the good side of Iran and Iranian people to the world and to Samira for sharing the pictures.
