by yolanda on Tue Jul 20, 2010 03:32 PM PDTThank you and Majid for the great photo essay interview....very interesting! I read MPD's play review last night and got interested in this play and the actor.....the guy must have worked very hard to get where he is today.....I am shocked to learn that comedians are shy and have sad lives.....it is unbelievable....
Wow! The guy is on the phone in 12 photos.........this is my favorite photo:

Friends,
by Nazy Kaviani on Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:30 PM PDTDear Azadeh Jan,
Where have you been?!! I'm so glad you are back doostam. Thank you for your kind words. Yekshanbeh shab jaato khali mikonim! Please consider coming to join us at an Iranian.com event sometime. (see below).
Dear Bajenagh and Monda Jan,
Yippeee! I so look forward to seeing you guys on Sunday night! Thanks so much for your support of the artists and of Iranian.com! Together we rock! (not to mention "what a handsome bunch we make!")
Darius, Red Wine, and Anonymouse Jan,
Thank you! We will really miss you guys! Say, (don't tell anyone yet, but) Iranian.com will have a very special artist presentation on October 23, 2010. Do you think you might be able to plan to come and see other Iranian.commers then? Just a thought!
Majid Jan,
Thank you for your great report! I have a feeling you and I will do this again really soon! You are the best Majid!
Very nice, you guys!
by Monda on Wed Jul 14, 2010 09:41 AM PDTI cancelled my vacation on the mountains to see the play. That is how much I enjoyed Houshang Touzie's answers to Nazy's questions, while Majid went at it with his camera. Beautiful teamwork, very informative....there was much I didn't know about Houshand and Shohreh, before today.
Majid jaan so those photos were before or during the interview?
by Anonymouse on Wed Jul 14, 2010 06:14 AM PDTI thought the idea of someone conducting a phone interview and another one taking pictures at the same time is a new style and perhaps it can be said that it started at iranian.com! Perhaps JJJ can patent it!
So having said that when you said when you arrived Houshang was already on the phone does that mean his phone pictures here were before or during the interview or both?
I also liked the picture you took of Houshang looking over i.com on his laptop. Now that you've become BFF with Houshang, can you ask him to look over this page, register and leave a comment?! thanks ;-)
Nazy jaan thanks for your kind reply. I'll have to see that movie again, it's been so long. Although a 2002 movie called Maryam including plays by none other than Shohreh and Maz Jobrani, playcast here, is about a kid going to high school in 1979 and the aftermath of revolution for her and her family. I give that movie 4.5 stars!
Everything is sacred
Thank you Nazy & Majid
by Azadeh Azad on Wed Jul 14, 2010 01:26 AM PDTNazy jan: Your interviewing style is excellent. I learnt substantial stuff about Houshang Touzie. Thank you very much. Also, I join Anonymouse in suggesting that you interview Nasim Pedram from SNL. She is very talented and a favourite comedian of mine.
Majid jan: A wonderful photographer is born. Through your photos, I learnt a lot about the personal life of this couple, especially their sense of beauty. Thank you.
Cheers,
Azadeh

MajidTue Jul 13, 2010 09:00 PM PDT

by bajenaghe naghi on Tue Jul 13, 2010 08:16 PM PDTThank you for the invite.
I will be there on Sunday. Maryam jan still not talking to me due to my constant rudeness! So I'll bring my brother instead.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday. :-)
Dear Obamaye Gol!
by Nazy Kaviani on Tue Jul 13, 2010 08:04 PM PDTThank you so much for your kind comment. I hope Mr. Touzie sees your kind sentiments about him and his family and that he gets in touch with you!
I am not sure about their tour schedule. I went here:
//iranians.kodoom.com/en/houshang-touzie/
and it looks like the San Francisco show is the last one they will be doing for now. Where do you live? Can you make it here by Sunday, July 18th? If not, if you are on the East Coast you might try catching up with him at one of his Fall readings in New York City, as described in the photo essay.
I am sure if you try you can get a hold of him, he is a very approachable and warm man.
Dear Anonymouse
by Nazy Kaviani on Tue Jul 13, 2010 07:57 PM PDTThank you so much for that all around kind and sweet comment!
Houshang Touzie and I chatted briefly about his 1983 film, Ferestadeh, (The Mission, or Agent from Tehran) and I would like to share some of what we said with you, the ultimate movie buff on the site! I told him how remarkable I found that Parviz Sayyad movie. The film must have been made on a shoestring budget, but it had what probably amounts to the best script, directing, and acting of all Iranian movies made outside Iran for the past 30+ years. It is truly a notable film. He shared how hard those years were, the years of anxiety and confusion and sadness for the newly arrived Iranians in the west, where people were all busy surviving the displacement, the sadness, the poverty, and the uncertainty. The movie came and went through the haze that the Iranian immigrants' psyche was back then, without much notice or appreciation.
Well, it's never too late! I think every Iranian must see that very intelligent and moving film today.
I hope Majid comes and sees your kind comment to him! He is such a good sport! He gave up the World Cup Final to go take the photos, can you believe it? And his photos are absolutely fabulous, I am so grateful to him.
Dear Bajenagh Jan
by Nazy Kaviani on Tue Jul 13, 2010 07:39 PM PDTIt's good to see you again! Hey, how about if you take a short vacation and come see the play on Sunday night?!! Bring Maryam Jan, too! What do you say Bajenagh Jan?
Great to see Houshang here, my neighbor 40 years ago!
by obama on Tue Jul 13, 2010 06:01 PM PDTThank you Nazy jon! I wish I could see him. Where can i get his tour schedule from? I must see him! We lived in the same house for a few years till they moved out. My family still live in the same house.
Houshang and my brother were real good friends and they haven't seen each other for 40 years. I was friend with his younger brother Amir. Houshang was the most good looking guy in the neighborhood. They were such a wonderful and respectful family.
Real good interviewer, interviewee & photohrapher! 10 all around
by Anonymouse on Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:45 PM PDTHoushang is very talented and I saw him and Shohreh in 90s in a play and they both did real good and the audience (including me) loved them. He is really amazing and bring theatre to Iranians like no one else. As impatient as we are somehow we sit through his plays and enjoy our time. I think it is ALL him and his talent.
Seems like a good time was had by all and Houshang was a very good host.
Nazy jaan you're now getting more and more professional in these interviews! Who is next?! May I suggest Nasim Pedram from Saturday Night Live?! I'd have definately suggested Shohreh but thought let's give the couple a break for now.
Everything is sacred

I look forward to see more of Mr. Touzie's wonderful work to be produced and offered through different media.
