I was in Thailand for 10 days -- four days in Bangkok, three days in Pataya city, which is literally a huge brothel, and the rest in Phuket and Ko Tapu island, known as “James Bond Island.” It was first featured in the movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” in 1974 with Roger Moore. The transsexual show in Bangkok was unbelievable. There was no way anyone would have guessed that the performers were actually men (with breast implants and all : )
It was the most beautiful country I have ever seen in my life (the Iranian hamvatans we toured with all claimed Thailand “ayne shomaleh!”). The food was absolutely amazing and the street vendors were very inexpensive. We also pretty much visited every temple in Bangkok. I would live in that county in a heartbeat.

Wonderful full of life
by farnaz (not verified) on Fri Dec 19, 2008 08:13 PM PSTWonderful full of life pix!
So lovely that I want to go and visit immediately!
*
Personally, I take everything at its own worth and value.
If it is beautiful, it Is *BEAUTIFUL* and not in comparison to elsewhere!
But remember you may go to an absolutely beautiful sea side place somewhere in the world ( by world standards) and not find it as beautiful as let's say Shomal!
Why? -- it will not have the same 'hal o hava'
nor will it have the memories intermingled.
But it could absolutely be far more beautiful than Shomal! -- again by world standards!
You say NOT?
Thanks Samsam
by Souri on Fri Dec 19, 2008 05:42 PM PSTWrong side of the bed today ? Yea, maybe :D)))
But great to see that " You & Me" conversation is always harmless,

by samsam1111 on Fri Dec 19, 2008 04:58 PM PSTIt was just a harmless light humor with JJ since He once wrote some Persian names were taghooti so he named her daughter Mahdiyeh :)..Don,t read too much into every sentence , I was just having a light moment & Mahdieh is this smart lady,s name & it,s just fine with me ..meant no offence... heeh..wrong side of bed today my dear lady .
take care & keep well

by Souri on Fri Dec 19, 2008 11:10 AM PSTMahdieh jan: The pictures were splendid, the places were great and beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us.
JJ jan: There's no need to compare one place to another ! We are seeing the pictures, so we are able to judge by ourselves. Who need the comparison ?
Samsam jan: My dear friend, you are acting exactly like the akhound you criticize all the time. They do Arabize all the Persian names, and you do deliberately call the author, MANDANA. Her name is Mahdieh, my dear. And believe it or not, she just likes her own name, if not she would change it. Why not to respect people's will ?
Thanks to all.
JJ you seem to be putting
by Derakhshandeh (not verified) on Fri Dec 19, 2008 06:57 AM PSTJJ you seem to be putting the title for the same reason someone said it looks like Shomal. People who say some place looks "better" than shomal or looks "like" shomal are of the same mind. Right?
Are you trying to teach "these people" a "lesson"?!

by Anonymous411 (not verified) on Thu Dec 18, 2008 04:13 PM PSTPhuket is a beautiful and fun area. I was there with my wife 2 years ago and it was so relaxing to go to the beach everyday and take a swim. The local food is amazing (I have to say that after Iraian food, thai comes in a close second). The one thing that we did see there was the ping pong show! wow, I do not think I will ever see it, but it will be something I will tell my son about (once he is old enough)
JJ's clarification
by Obersrver1 (not verified) on Thu Dec 18, 2008 03:52 PM PSTPoint well taken! But why not title the essay with something like: "Thailand: One of or The most beautiful place on earth"?
Blogs are loaded with individual opinions, but for a topic to serve as the foundation for a subject matter that contains an intellectual purpose, then the author must grant the audience the opportunity to enjoy and decide for themselves.
Also, to reflect more on your point, I'm not convinced that mauling others with Persian patriotism is the focus nor the intent of those who object to tones that may be unfaltering to Iran. Like the Mullah’s or not, there is wisdom in the movement to combat the negative persona portrayed in the western media toward Iran. For years the media machine has gone wild on shaping how the general masses associate with Iran and Iranians by form of unavoidable association. I presume this is why some Iranians have become preoccupied with hating themselves.
A beautiful healthy tree is only as good as its roots, so some seek opportunities to protect ours.
Thailand is beautiful indeed!
by kfravon on Thu Dec 18, 2008 03:51 PM PSTI have to agree with you Mahdiyeh jan. Thailand is by far one of the most beautiful spots on Earth. Thanks for posting pictures of your trip. My personal favorite is also picture 25 :)
I have not been to Phuket yet, but we were fortunate to spend several days in Koh Samui with breathtaking views of Gulf of Thailand. I ended up having an accident on my 2nd day there, but even that didn't stop me from enjoying the amazing scenery and the beautiful people of Samui.
Thanks Mandana

Shomal vs Rest of the World
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Dec 18, 2008 11:55 AM PSToberserve1, I was actually going to put another title: Shomal times 100. But I didn't want any super hamvatans to have a heart attack :o)
Seriously though, the title comes from Mahdiyeh's intro. She mentioned that the Iranians she was traveling with described Thailand as being "ayne shomal".
Sometimes we have to consider the possibility that on this big earth there might be some places that are more beautiful than somewhere in our own country. That's not an insult. It's a fact -- which does not take anything away from the beauty of Shomal.
times 10?
by oberserve1 (not verified) on Thu Dec 18, 2008 11:03 AM PSTTailand is beautiful!!!
But why are you associating a degrading title to your photos??
Amazing colors!
by Monda on Thu Dec 18, 2008 09:01 AM PSTSo great to see your photos. Beaches, ocean, plants, animals, dancers, foods, cars, temples, all facinating. I'm definitely moving Thailand way up higher on my list of places to visit before too late.
