Waiting for Sarah

Photo essay: Visiting the mother of an American held at Evin Prison

by Nazy Kaviani
13-Sep-2010

I went to visit Sarah Shourd’s mother, Nora, in Oakland a few weeks ago. Sarah Shourd is one of the three American hikers in prison in Iran [Update: Sarah has been freed]. The three young Americans were arrested on July 31, 2009 on the Iranian border with Iraq for illegal border crossing. They are being held inside Tehran’s Evin Prison without a chance to see their lawyer, without proper contact with their families, and in violation of Iranian laws. Read what their lawyer, Massoud Shafiee, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran (August 25, 2010). For more information see freethehikers.org

Poor American response to the kidnapping of its citizens

by Simorgh5555 on

Have I missed the point? Why have Americans not reacted to the unlawful kinapping of its citizens the same way as the US embassy hostages during 1979? The latter caused an uproar in America and cost the presidency of Jimmy Carter as well as prompting an ill fated American rescue mission. The media should do more to highlight this outrageous action by terrorist occupiers of Iran.

Nazy jaan great report

by Anonymouse on

I wish she and her daughter can be reunited again soon.  When that happens their bond will be that much stronger.  I can sense that she is a wonderful lady and seems like her life has been put on hold.

Keep the hope alive.
