The 127 Band, one of the most original rock bands to come out of Iran in recent years, is ready to produce their second CD. But to do so they need our support.
It is not easy being an Iranian rock band. In Iran you are faced with all sorts of restrictions: most likely you will not get permission from authorities to distribute CDs and it's almost impossible to hold concerts. Meanwhile performing in the U.S. generates very little money.
So in order to survive and produce new music we need to support these talented youngsters as much as we can. I urge you to go to their site and make a donation (you will get goodies with it, including their next CD). As soon as I feature this photo essay I will make a $100 donation. WE can make this happen.
Last year 127's "Khal Punk" CD received great reviews [my favorite song is "Khosro-e-Khooban"] and helped them launch their U.S. tour. They performed at major music festivals as well as small clubs in several cities, including San Francisco, where I got a chance to meet two main members Sohrab Mohebbi and Salmak Khaledi. Later I hung out with them at my friend Shahrokh's music featival in Seattle and Ahmad Kiarostami and Pardis Mahdavi's wedding in San Diego. Enjoy the photos.

I have another idea, eroonman!
by sellaband.com (not verified) on Thu Mar 12, 2009 11:32 AM PDT127 has already performed and recorded two CDs. But - for obvious reasons - they can't reach out to their main audience in Iran, and make a living from that.
Also, take a look at this:
//www.sellaband.com
There's not even a single Iranian band there, but yet, they are reaching out to their fans and supporters to raise $50,000 for their next album.
There are other things "Iranian" things as well, like generosity, kindness, support... take a closer look at JJ with this "Iranian" website and you may learn.
I have an idea...
by eroonman on Wed Mar 11, 2009 05:02 PM PDTHey, why don't they put their songs on iTunes, so they don't have to make physical CDs, and then get day jobs to pay for their weekend gigs, as they travel in a broken down bus, from cafes to small clubs. Then as they actually hear real response to their music, and can tell from the audience what sells, could possibly modify and change their music so that the good stuff people like, sells more/better, and then pretty soon they will have a hit album full of popular songs, and won't need to beg like this! How about that?
Oh wait, silly me. That's the way every other band does it. I forgot. This is an Iranian band! They think they should be paid before they record or perform.
I get it now. So uh, there's that...
