Today on Planet NIAC
by bahmani

Today NIAC spent what is hopefully left of it's budget on a full page ad in the Washington Post calling for president Obama to hold off on attacking Iran first.

The ad says, "Unless we or an ally is attacked, war should be the option of last resort."

Or, please wait until Iran attacks the US or Israel before you blow them into the next century. Which is a perfectly good argument, if 911 or Pearl Harbor (ranked by total number killed) had not happened. Unfortunately what NIAC in spite of the amount of time it spends on Capitol Hill still doesn't seem to get, is that the US is not in a position to risk this again, and thus the war drum beating is getting louder. Naturally.

To be absolutely fair about all this, the likelihood of Iran attacking the US first is far lower than even the Fordow nuclear storage facility. And Israel is safe too.

Because everyone knows that the only reason that Iran wants a nuke is; because Pakestan has one, and it also happens to be a very good way to protect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic. So they can keep the fun times going.

The irony is that the reason Iran feels it's sovereignty threatened by the US and Israel, is precisely because of the Islamic Republic's policies. Supporting nefarious activities around the world, let's name them; Hamas, Hezbollah, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, Argentina and now Thailand. These are facts about Iran that even NIAC cannot deny, because Iran never denies them, but of course you will never see this mentioned in a NIAC ad.

That the source of ALL of Iran's problems, are Iran.

It is important for everyone to know that it is these actions by Iran, and now add to it the desire to get a nuke with which to protect these actions, that have put Iran square and center, at the very top of "Countries I should Invade Next" wish list of the President of the United States.

Blame everyone else if you want, but know in your heart that it will always come back to Iran and her shitty life choices. I mean if you know the dog has bitten many times before, has just finished biting, and is in the process of biting right now, why on earth would you put your fucking hand in the cage?

This is Iran's very dangerous game of a lazy fat Persian Cat vs a very lean and mean American Yard dog. One guess who will end up in whose mouth.

NIAC's ad further says that, "Fortunately, diplomacy has not been exhausted, and peaceful solutions are still possible." which is completely and utterly true. Because that statement is painfully obvious.

Diplomacy: noun, (modified) def: the art and practice of conducting negotiations between nations, especially after a war.

Unfortunately and apparently as usual, and like always, NIAC suggests a super secret better way exists, but has absolutely no idea of what that might be. Because if they did, you'd think someone on NIAC staff would get the clue that maybe, just maybe, that information would be worth sending to the guy who knows PhotoShop in the office, and can put that in the full page ad in the Washington Post on a cold Monday morning.

Finally, all you need to know about NIAC is in the black and white ad. Discount Lobbying and Bargain Diplomacy for half the price of color.

I would simply like to know more about those diplomacy options that NIAC says have not been exhausted. What are they? Why is that secret or left off a full page ad? I mean if you and I knew the cure for cancer would we hold that information back? Honestly, I have been waiting for NIAC to give some hint of a solution for years. I don't think they have an answer. They appear to only just want to be invited to the Obama/Hilary table so Trita can sell more books. Again, if the details of the diplomacy was obvious, why hold back? The answer to the problem is after all the answer to the problem. No?

Well said. The pathological Israel-haters have been using that worthless strip of rock, sand, and sewage called "Palestine" for many years to try to divert attention away from far more important matters in Iranians' lives. Fortunately, more people are seeing through their lies. Regards.

In answer to some things you said:

  • The point is not whether youve ever condemned Saudi Arabia or Bahrain (which oddly I didnt mention). It's that out of every 3 sentences you write, there's a gaza/AIPAC/Israel in one of them. Honestly, how many times have you condemned the people slaughtered in Chechniya or China? Once or twice maybe? And have you ever called China or Russia a "criminal entity"? In comparison, how many times per day do you condemn Israel? It's as if Israel-bashing is your noon-o-aab. You even hate Israelis more than the Arabs do!
  • I will condemn Israel when you name ONE Iranian that has been proven to be killed by Israel. Just one. If you really fought in the war, then you know very well that our light and heavy artillery came from Israel. I still have a pookeh feshang from the Kelash rifle that I used to carry. It's a constant reminder to me about the lies we were told in those 8 years. Israel was our ONLY ALLY in the war. Is that not worth anything to you?
  • Yes, both me and you were brainwashed. Not only did Israel support us in the war, they saved us from Saddam's nuclear weapons. Not only was the war not "imposed" after 82, but we actually prolonged it. Do you remember "jang jang taa piroozi"? You should. Did you ever stop and think why we were shouting those slogans in our bunkers?
  • If you feel like you "dont need my conversation", then simply dont answer. Kesee majbooret nakardeh! But if you do answer, then please dont act like an Islamic Republic thug, and stop composing your entire post about who you think I am. Laabod aslan javaabi nadaari bedee?

Receives  very generous funding from the islamist regime.

But yes, very true, the life of Islamist regime of Iran, in the short term at least, is in the hands of American generals.

All we are saying is give peas a chance!

by Faramarz on

The funny thing is that the ad says "Fortunately, diplomacy has not been exhausted, and peaceful solutions are still possible."

That's what President Obama said today about giving sanctions time to produce results, "Give diplomacy and economic sanctions a chance to work before resorting to military action."

So it looks like as if NIACies are falling in line with Obama's tough sanction policy.

The Amazing NIAC flexes its muscels!

by Ramin J on

Bahmani - you are pathetic. Your pop-wanna-be-social-scientist analysis of the letter is laughable, mindful of the fact that it is signed by 8 SENIOR former US military officials I think they know more about red lines than you.

the real story here is that there is an IRanian-American organization that:

1. Has the political insticts to understand good timing - NIAC timed the ad on the day Obama met with Netanyahoo. Amazing!

2. Has the ability to raise the money for an ad like this - which I assume must cost 150k or so. Amazing!

3. Has the credibility and network to get 8 senior former GENERALS and top Intelligence officials to sign it. Amazing!

Is there any other iranian org that can pull something like this off???

I am glad we have such smart Iranian-Americans in DC. I wish we had had them in 1953. Perhaps the US would not have done a coup against Mossadeq then!

A Great Blog!

by G. Rahmanian on

I, especially, enjoyed reading the mockery made of the text of the ad by NIAC; an organization that boasts the support and counsel of some Iranian "big shots."

I wish I could say NIAC will learn to be more cautious with its phraseology, next time around. But, unfortunately, there is nothing NIAC could learn simply because, the text is an outline of the organization's policy of appeasement vis-a-vis the authoritarian regime in Tehran.

More power to them! They should push anti sanctions ads on all newspapers and TV airwaves as well. Simply point to Iraqi experience. Make sure to quote neocons's wanting to mass starve iranians into submission.

Fessenjoon2: If you insist…

by Bavafa on

I must say that I can hold my head up quite well as my record speaks for itself.  A quick glance of my concerns expressed on IC reveals a consist condemnation of all dictators from IRI, Syria, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia to the criminal entity in Tel Aviv but hardly such thing can be said about you.

From a daily post on IC about the victim of IRI spending years behind bars for confronting IRI, not once I have seen a post of support by you.  But as I said before, knowing about one’s past speaks volume about that person.

You want to go back in time…
As a youngster, I joined the service and volunteered for front line while my mother land was under attack and occupation but did not change color once discharged to get a post/job with the IRI government nor grew a beard to get accepted in the university as this was a requirement then (tahghigh mahali) but I had got the wrath of Basij for standing up to them and spent times as their guest.  As a formaer Basiji, you may well be faimilar with the type of hospitality one may receive by them.

By your own admission, as a once Basiji armed member then floating in and out of various IRI government jobs for those of us familiar with the condition of the system and the type of people who participated in them I can only imagine a person of opportunist rather a person of principal can lend himself to it.

Now, the same opportunist have become the beacon of freedom and democracy, siding with AIPAC in the West by cheering and promoting a death and destruction that they once experienced against their mother land.

You tell me, were you brainwashed when you joined the system or was it mere of opportunity that was presented to you?

You see, there has been a reason that I never sought your conversation,  people who change by the direction of the wind cannot be a reliable source of exchanging of ideas.

Perfect timing on NIAC's part

by Sadegh Bozorgmehr on

The timing couldn't have been better, and as Disenchanted said, this is a brave move that should be applauded.

As for bahmani, how can you write that NIAC suggests diplomacy as an alternative, and LITERALLY in the next sentence say that NIAC suggests no alternative?

by Fesenjoon2 on

Oh please.

Shameful is when one cries Gaza Gaza 24/7/365, and never mentions a word about Grozny, Homs, and Xinjiang. Or do they not count (because of their ethnicity)?

Do you realize that more Iranians have been killed by the IRI since 1979, than Palestinians by Israel? Is Palestinian blood more red to you than Iranians and others?

Dont you realize that this whole "Felesteen-e Mazloom" ideology is a ploy that Khomeini and his followers have brainwashed everyone with in the past 30 years to distract attention away from the miserable conditions of the mamlekat inside Iran?

Abee ke be khaaneh ravaast be masjed Haraam ast.

Great job by NIAC! Kudos!

by Disenchanted on

The other day someone posted a blog called "Tarita in Lion's den"! I wonder what they would call this one?! To stand up to AIPAC is a feat worthy of praise! Thank you NIAC! Netanyahu wants to be "mater of fate" for Jewish state as he calls it! To that end he needs to be "mster of the world" and he even has the audacity of trying to dictate to the United State president, his real master that is!.........Remember when the microphone was left open accidently for people to hear Sarkozy chat with Obama? That is one of the rare moments that you could hear how exactly "allies" feel about him.  Here it is: "I cannot bear Netanyahu, he's a liar," Sarkozy told Obama, unaware that the microphones in their meeting room had been switched on, enabling reporters in a separate location to listen in to a simultaneous translation.

"You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him even more often than you," Obama replied, according to the French interpreter.

Bahmani jaan: you beat me to it...

by Bavafa on

As I was about to write about this action taken by NIAC, speaking against war of choice with Iran, which so many other Iranian groups have failed to even mention perhaps out of fear of getting the wrath of AIPAC and their big $$$.   You see not everyone believes in kissing up the riches boy’s behind in order to be cool and accepted, some stand up for their principals. As vast majority of Iranians are steadfastly against a war on their mother land, specially by a nation that has been an invader of others land for decades, proven to be as merciless as in Gangizkhan during their attack on Gaza, this action goes to show why I feel I need to support this group even more than any other political group at this point in time, hence the extra donation.

A war on Iran in my mind will undoubtedly be disastrous for Iranian people and very possibly for the Israeli people leaving only IRI to gain from it and creating even more hate for the Israel as a nation.

AO:  If those mentioned acts were going to be reason for starting a war, then you know well Israel should and would have been attacked by a host of nations around the world as their assassination and terrorist activity well surpass IRI’s when it comes to foreign affairs.

Anonymous Observer

NIAC is also providing a dubious "acceptable" excuse for war

by Anonymous Observer on

And that refers to the definition of an "attack" which can ignite the all out war.  What's an "attack" and how is it defined?  Is an Iranian missile fired at a Saudi Arabian oil terminal and "attack" on an ally that justifies a full scale military response?  If yes, then that can be easily staged, just like Hitler did with Poland in WWII.  By publishing this idiotic statement, NIAC has really given the green light to every politician, military planner and most importantly, lawyer, in Israel (and its supporters in the U.S.) to cook up justifiable "attack on ally" scenarios which can lead to an all out conflict.

I also like this part of your blog:

The irony is that the reason Iran feels it's sovereignty threatened by the US and Israel, is precisely because of the Islamic Republic's policies. Supporting nefarious activities around the world, let's name them; Hamas, Hezbollah, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, Argentina and now Thailand. You will also never see them mentioned in comments and blogs by our resident "anti-war" "peace lovers" on IC.
