Fire away

I'm sitting on the floor at Berlin's something-hof airport waiting for my flight to Brussels. The building is cold and mighty ugly. You only see straight lines. Everything looks like a square or rectangle. It also reminds me of the Tehran's Mehrabad airport in some way.

I sat down with my new good friend at the Airlift cafe and chatted about bloggers and the sorry state of Iranian media. I got milk with a banana and he had a cherry yogurt with orange juice. Total 16 Euros... about $22. Maadareto...

My friend just left to get on the plane. I have a few hours to kill. I thought this would be a good time to talk to readers, which I should do from time to time.

If you have any questions you may have about iranian.com or me or anything relevant... I'd be happy to answer them.

Fire away!

About imerialism

by Ben Madadi on

I disagree with you here and it is nothing but my personal conviction that America is no empire, nor has any imperilistic tendencies. But we have all the rights to disagree with each other! America as a superpower protected the free world against Communism and Nazism. We all know this. But we expect a polity comprised of human beings be perfect, which it won't be. Imagine if our own country held the power America does. The world would have been a miserable and messy place. And we all know this too.

Vulgarity

by Jahanshah Javid on

I have delegated several people the ability to delete comments that use strong vulgar language to attack others. I use have used "shit" and "fuck" in my own comments here and there. But if the person making the comment is using vulgar language ONLY to be vulgar, then there's no point.
Threats and ugly personal attacks that are irrelevant to the article are blog may also be deleted in extreme cases. If you give me exact and specific cases where your comments have been wrongly deleted, I will review and notify the editors of their mistake.

Tell us:
What is your rule about deleting some commnets? No matter how a careful examination, we are mystified. And, I am talking about myself and few others who have been reading the comments, posts, and blogs. Some have mysteriously disappeared after a day or two!!!! We have not been able to determine your "deletion algorithm", except that ...... ( I will keep that explanation for later if this question also does not disappear from your site!!!!)!

Not an expert

by Jahanshah Javid on

Imperialism? When a superpower tells you what you should or should not do -- and using her full might to push you around for selfish and illegitimate ends. Other than that, go ask anti-imperialists what they think imperialism is. I'm no expert.

I feel...

by Jahanshah Javid on

Hi Ben,
You are mistaken. No one thinks I'm god and they are very aware of my weaknesses. Many know they can do a better job than I do and I wouldn't doubt it. But ghesmat een bood keh I started the site early in the life of the Internet. My journalism and writing skills are modest at best. If I had started it today, it would not have been as big as it is today. And believe me... I feel nothing like Jahanshah :o)

JJ, what is anti-imperialist, on a more serious note?!

by Ben Madadi on

You use the word anti-imperialist... what empire are you referring to? I mean, seriously, you DO NOT call the US an empire, right? You were somehow quoting others I guess.

God Almighty JAHANSHAH

by Ben Madadi on

Did you know you're almost like a god to us? :))
Even your name is quite suggestive. How do you feel? Does it feel good? :D
How is it like to be a god, a little god? Suspected of being the god of the Zionists, the god of the Akhunds, and the god of meany other tiny little creatures hating each other and battling for your attention? hahahah!

Thanks for the cordial exchange, hope you take a puff or two of Thai stick, inhale and count to twenty before exhaling, and have a pleasant trip.

pot

by Jahanshah Javid on

Hi Ali Agha,

I will certainly go to the first coffeeshop I find when I get to Amsterdam. But taking a picture of the menu is not going to help you much. When I went last year, they had name like Kabul Cake or Bombay Bomb. They make up names. I just ask them give me the best shit you have!

Hookers

by Jahanshah Javid on

Hi Shabnam,

I will be in Amsterdam later this week. And I will be going to hookers row. Photos? Probably. Sex? I like the free variety :o)

Jahanshah Javid

As you know

by Jahanshah Javid on

I don't know what Ommani has written elsewhere and I'm not going to do a background check on him or anyone before I publish their work. And I don't remember Pourkesali denied some demonstration took place. But even if he did, that does not tell me he's pro-IRI. That tells me that he may think that story was made-up or exaggerated by the foreign media in order to justify an attack on Iran.

As you know, anti-imperialists tend to focus only on the threat from outside. They think that exposing and condemning repression inside Iran is equal to supporting the aims of imperialists. I strongly disagree with that view and I believe the rights and dignity of YOUR OWN citizens is no trivial matter. And I make a point of that in publishing the other material that you see on iranian.com. But when the U.S. and others threaten to bomb Iran, naturally you will see more people reacting and writing against military action.

Thank YOU for asking and I know we will continue to disagree on some points. But what you and others tell me will stay in the back of my mind and have an impact on what goes on here. Mamnoonam.

by Ali Agha Teryaki (not verified) on

If you happen to visit one of these Coffee Shops in Amsterdam that serve "Pot", please take a picture of their menu so that we can see the variety of Pot that they have. Happy Smokes :)

Tell us about the juicy stuff

by Shabnam (not verified) on

I guess by now you must have touched down in Amsterdam. Are you going to visit Amsterdam's hookers row - not that you may do anything improper, carnally I mean, but would be nice to see a photo essay.

I invite you to post

by Anonymous8 (not verified) on

I invite you to post Ommani’s Iran travelogue and not just his anti imperialistic ones or pourkesali who on your site after the Laleh park brutal beatings of women demonstrators denied such thing ever took place. And I know about the unitary NIAC event that was not my question, rather why opposing NIAC and CASMII articles are not copied from other sites as are the pro CASMII are. BTW TX for your patience, look at this way, it is a healthy way to kill time at airport that is exactly what I am doing at National Airport.

Jahanshah Javid

Be specific

by Jahanshah Javid on

Give me one example of any of them denying repression in Iran. Choosing to concentrate on anti-imperialism and militarism and war, is not the same as denying repression or supporting the Islamic Republic. As for NIAC, they recently had a conference of human rights violations in Iran.

Agreed nothing is black and

by Anonymous8 (not verified) on

Agreed nothing is black and white, but when people in their anti war articles openly deny repression in Iran, then some things are not jiving. Your site goes fishing for articles in other sites, for example Ommani’s, and never ever goes fishing for Dai who exposes CASMII and NIAC.

Jahanshah Javid

Anti-war

by Jahanshah Javid on

I personally don't know the people you mentioned. They can speak for themselves. But based on their articles, again, I don't think someone who is against the war is necessarily trying to defend the Islamic Republic or its crimes.

Of course you and all readers can judge for yourselves and question them as you like. But in my eyes people are not black and white. Nothing is black and white.

I mean people like Ardeshir

by Anonymous8 (not verified) on

I mean people like Ardeshir Ommani, Pourkesali, Pourzal, Ulrich, etc.. who claim to be anti war, waht sane person isn't, and at same time whitewash Islamic Republic's crimes to further their argument against war.

Jahanshah Javid

Pro-IRI?

by Jahanshah Javid on

Thanks Anon 8,

I'm not sure what you mean by pro-IRI? Could you be more specific?

If you mean anti-war articles, that's something else. But there's a big difference between those who are against war and those who are pro-IRI. I do not see a link between the two. I myself am against war AND against the IRI.

Articles are not commissioned by iranian.com. I do not tell any one to write and submit anything. All articles and blogs are what people send voluntarily.

Ever since the redesign of

by Anonymous8 (not verified) on

Ever since the redesign of site and financial arrangement there is an upsurge of posting of decidedly pro Islamic Republic articles. What is up with that? And the comment section has turned into chat room for a few, could a limit be imposed on it
