Dictatorship. Even though Iran was more respected to outside world during the shah, its people suffered whether it was gap between rich and poor, denial of individual rights, freedom of speech or even harassing the minorities. Today situation is beyond worst, however the foundation of both institutions was based on dictatorship. What Iran needs before heading to the path of destruction is new institution which is secular and federal.

Although I think some of the facts about the Shah's reign were embellished , there is no denying that the country and all Iranians are worse off now. The criminal and anti-humanity reign of the mullahs have destroyed our country and I do agree that its been the work of western conspiracy added to the ignorance and religious superstitions of the local people.

This video (and especially the music) tied a big knot in my throat and welled up my eyes... we're in deep and it'll take a miracle to get us out of this mess.

I watch this and wonder if it is possible to believe that the superpowers of the world didn't install this regime. Also why in the hell would they now want to take this regime out when it has been so beneficial to them for all these years. The only thing they may want to do is a repeat of the same thing. Just destroy the country again (or further) and get rid of a few more modern elements and enhance the position of the hardliners.

During World War II Reza Pahlavi sided with the Nazis. For that he was removed.

The only people executed today are 1st degree murderers. And they are hanged.

Let us not forget, in the US the death penalty is legal. The US Supreme Ct. has upheld the death penalty.

The video clip showed a Taliban fighter. the clip said Iran supports such nut jobs. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Taliban are enemies. President Karzai and Iran are friends.

In Mazari-Shariff, Afghanistan the Taliban over-ran an Iranian embassy and killed all the Iranian diplomats after the revolution.

The only reason why Saddam did not attack Iran during the Shah is because the Shah abandoned the Kurds for Saddam. The Shah betrayed Iranian Kurds. The Shah was evil.

By the way, the Shah, M.R. Pahlavi gave away rights to Bahrain.

The Shah was a nut. The Shah had cancer and believed Imam Mahdi will cure his Cancer. The Shah would visit Imam Reza's shrine yearly.

If anyone helped the theocracy come to power, it was M.R. Pahlavi.

While I strongly believe the Islamic Republic is one of the worst things that has happened to Iran but I also believe Shah was a no good, corrupt and useless dictator.

The facts you mention in this clip about the Shah and how things were before the revolution are so childish and naive that they border funny in a stupid kind of way.
