Sargord Pirouz, What do you think of this?

stand down?
by Sargord Pirouz on Mon Dec 07, 2009 07:05 AM PSTAli, there's only so much you can glean from a handful of pics, videos and unconfirmed reports.
But so far, what I'm seeing is that some form of general stand down order was implemented for 16 Azar.
The only video and pics of IRIPF I've seen have them standing aside. There's even one where mid-ranking officers are pretty much standing with their hands in their pockets accross the street from a university. (Of course, some of the students can't help but taunt them!) All the inner campus videos show unmolested students, and law enforcement nowhere to be seen inside.
Again, from what I've seen, the law enforcement reaction, so far, has been different than September and November. Of course, with the introduction of new evidence, this could radically change how we're looking at this.
I'll admit it, though. I can't help but be impressed by the courage shown by the demonstrating students. They appear to have come out en masse.

Arrest Ops
by Sargord Pirouz on Mon Dec 07, 2009 06:19 AM PSTMy hunch may have been correct.
Targeted arrest operations appear to be in effect, upon select students leaving campuses/demonstration sites.
AKU student leader and others reported in custody. Photos show plainclothesmen arresting officers; impossible to determine Basij, IRIPF or other.
Thanks for posting

thanks again, Shifteh Ansari
by Sargord Pirouz on Mon Dec 07, 2009 05:37 AM PSTThose photos of the Basij and (even) IRIPF engaging in rock tossing are from a single incident at AKU. An annoying lack of discipline, characteristic of the Basij, as well as a lack of professionalism shown by these two participating IRIPF policemen.
From just these few pics, it shows law enforcement keeping its distance. The students actually appear to have been granted a day of on-campus demonstrations.
Guessing: was law enforcement's strategy to prevent outside elements of the population from developing into a crowd and merging with the student demonstrations, which officials decided to permit?
Still, too early to draw conclusions. Please, any additional pics of law enforcement appreciated.
Thanks for your post

In Shifteh's words;
Green movement "will go on in some shape or form until Iran is no longer a theocracy, until people's private lives are safeguarded from the government, until religion is forever separated from the state in Iran."
Sargord Pirouz
by Shifteh Ansari on Mon Dec 07, 2009 04:42 AM PSTThank you for your contribution. I would like to discuss the issue of leadership within the green movement with you, but I am exhausted and I don't believe I can do the subject justice. Maybe tomorrow if we can run into each other again. For now I would just say that this is precisely the topic which shows how wrong many people are in trying to decipher the green movement. In my opinion the green movement is not a political movement which needs leadership. It is a civil rights movement in which every individual whose rights have been violated for a very long time becomes a leader, in search of his or her lost rights. Even if Mousavi were to become Iran's rightful president, the green movement would not stop. It is not a political party, and it does not need a leader. It will go on in some shape or form until Iran is no longer a theocracy, until people's private lives are safeguarded from the government, until religion is forever separated from the state in Iran. I'll catch you later.

Leaderless
by Sargord Pirouz on Mon Dec 07, 2009 04:25 AM PSTJudging from the videos, the demonstrations depict a total lack of leadership. There doesn't seem to be any Green leaders emerging to address the crowd. No intensive politicking. Instead, there are spasms of chanting and a lot of mulling around. Even amongst the crowd, students appear to be congealed in threes and fours, as you would expect in any type of student gathering.
I'm wondering how hard it will be for these students upon leaving the university (where they seem to be relatively unmolested- at least at AKU) and making their way home.
