When Lies Were Decreed as Truth...and a Nation Allowed Itself to Be Deceived.

A riveting historic tour-de-force, superbly in black and white. The rise of Islamic fascist as Media collaborated with the most reactionary segment of our society. . What we got was indescribable atrocities against humanity. How a willing but blinded nation applauded its war on humanity, which will soon lead them to devastating defeat, rubble, occupation, hunger, despair and a late awakening.

Let's not get crazy now. Vendetta is one thing, inhumane retribution and overkill is another.

No firing squad, no capital punishment. We could put them is see through glass (bullet proof) cases, dressed as clowns that they are, stationed in the city squares. And people could pelt garbage at them, as a form of stress relief.

No messy graves either please; only pissing allowed on their graves , number two is possibly permitted in the case of emergency.

"A picture's worth a thousand words." And this picture you posted deserves to be posted a thousand times. "Good things come in small packages," aptly describes your brief statement. And what you did triggered a wealth of mostly cogent contributions by our compatriots here.

Many thanks and happy new year,

Mir-Hossein Mousavi 'involved in massacre', says report

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

"Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the leader of Iran's opposition green movement was involved in the massacre of more than 10,000 political prisoners in 1988, according to a report. "

//www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/iran/7811996/Mir-Hossein-Mousavi-involved-in-massacre-says-report.html

I for one believe that we, people of Iran, more than a century since our forefathers faught, shed their blood and gained constitutional rights for us (which we, to our shame lost), deserve a lot better than a shah, a fasisct sheikh or a man who as a prime minister at best did not object to and at worse supported and approved the mass execution of tens of thousands of Iran's political prisoners...

Musavi and Korubi were also responsible for many crimes in 80's

by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on

Both, Musavi as the prime minister and Korubi as the speaker of the house were in positions of full inofrmation of the mass execustions in the early and late eighties, and in many statements supported the executions. Their return to Imam's Golden Age, requires a lot of kool aid, if you know what I mean.

Before impulsively responding

by Mammad on

think about what you say.

1. The picture has been posted so many times by so many people. Nothing is new here. But,

2. when I pose two questions, "why was it that a great revolution was hijacked, and what can be done now," it means based on what we know, and what has happened, including the picture. No one has forgotten the past, or should do so, least of all me who always points out to historical events. My point was, yes, true, "lies, lies, and more lies; we all know that," but what should be done now?

3. This is not about Dr. Ali Shariati. Shariati was opposed to the clerics, was hated by almost everyone of them because he was opposed to special privileges for them, and passed away way before even the revolution had started. Some of our best children, Nasrin Sotoudeh, Haleh Sahabi, Hoda Saber, Dr. Ahmad Zeidabadi, Amir Khosrow Dalirsani, ..... who are either dead or in jail are believers in Dr.

4. Whoever you want to support is your business. I support Mousavi and Karroubi, and did not ask you to do it.

5. I do understand this. Bringing up things that, on this site alone, have been repeated God knows how many times, is always easier than suggesting meaningful ways of getting out of this impasse, and at the same time we can beat on our chest for it!

6. How many times have you uttered the words, "Jewish fascism" and "Christian fascism," both very real existence?

They are actually with their hatred and vengenful rhetoric cannot contribute to any negotiation between the waring parties. In a way, they are aiding and abetting the regime's prospect of survival longer than necessary.

Vilde Jaan,

Common sense is hardly common. Any thinking person would have seen through the BBC infomercial with a cast of strange characters from Khomeini to yazdi....to sell us a prison as a hotel in a paradise island and we bought it lock, stock and barrel. The buyers remorse with no-return policy in effect is ongoing and the infomercial is still on in the form of Khatami, Mousavi... internally, and NIAC, Dabashi, Ganji.... externally. Meanwhile, masses still fall for psuedo movements from Reformists to fake greens and cannot tell the difference of fighting with a mortal enemy, with freedom of expression and political discourse. One could argue that the Iranian nation was duped and defeated more thoroughly than it yet realizes. Else, focus of conversations would not be on war or no war as though what has been going on in Iran for past 33 years is anything less.

کج فهمی های مردم

divaneh

OY, happy holidays to you as well

This idea that all anntelectuals supporteed khomini I'm afraid is just a aprojection of your imagination. There were many, many true intellectuals that had a position against khominie even before he became famouse, and nationally known, but unfortunately these were the voices that were not as  effective as ayatollah BBC.

As far as mass popularity of khmoeini was concerned BBC did a much better job than a thousand anntellectuals. This is not to dismiss the very strong influence of anntelectuals like Shariati and such, but at the same time we had people like Shamloo, Saaedi, Golshiri, Saeidi Sir Jani....and tens and hundreds more that you never mention.

The movement against shah was really a multi-voice, multi-dimentional movement, a movement that was taken over step by step by khoemini and his ilk.

Hooshang, first of all merry Christmas!

Now, I don't mean to be mean but I'd like to slightly modify your statement.

I think the day the Iranian intellectuals (left, center, and right) rallied behind Khomeinei and said Lab-Bake to him, the already devolution took the worst turn! That's it fell into the well (Chah) where Mehdi Farrari the 12th one lives!

Happy new year and hope this year is a healthy, happy, and prosperous one for you and the rest of Iranians!

I find it interesting that HTG and I basically agree on the revolution. It was gone the minute they made it an Islamic Republic. Different ideologies but same conclusion indicates we are probaby right.

These akhonds are a lot more clever than shah, but even for them all the options have been exhausted.

No there is one more option and a very good one. Bail out right now and go. It will save their sorry behinds and Iran a ton of pain. It may even get them a guarantee of no prosecution.

NDF had contacts with Mojahedin back then, as well. The founders of NDF Hezar Khani, Matin Daftry, et al...were considered 'Liberal."

Bakhtiar would have had a chance before 17 Shahrivar.

But after blood was shed, people killed in street demonstrations, and shah going  to national TV saying "I heard you voices," even Bakhtiar was too little, too late.

These akhonds are a lot more clever than shah, but even for them all the options have been exhausted.

G. Rahmanian

Hooshang Jaan:

by G. Rahmanian on

I'm talking about all opposition forces includin those who called Dr. Bakhtiar, "foroomaayeh." And saw Khomeini as an "anti-imperialist" hero. The opposition which could have saved Iran by joining hands with Mojahedin, of that time, and other anti-regime forces instead of fearing their labels. Much of the following of such forces joined them simply because they opposed the mullahs. The majority was too young to understand politics, anyway.

G. Rahmanian

As For "Mousavi Inc."

by G. Rahmanian on

Here's what I wrote on Feb. 2, 2011: "Reading the comments I can't help thinking that my friends here are tryin to assign roles/responsibilities to people who are not the "real" or willing leaders. that we want them to be. They are, as we saw after the fraudulent presidential elections, "accidental leaders" with their own ideological and political limits. Under present cicumstances Mousavi and Karroubi oppose the status quo, but are not calling for regime change. Even after 32 years, we read or hear those who sided with Khomeini claim they didn't know him well or were duped by his promises. I think Mousavi is, at least, being "honest" when he says he wants to return to Khomeini's era. Accusing these guys of "faltering" is tantamount to either misunderstanding their positions or expecting too much from individuals who simply cannot deliver. Of course they cannot deliver what is expected of them and they have proven that in many different ways. So, the question should rather be: Where are the real opposition leaders who should be calling for regime change and lead people's movement to the end? In the absence of a viable alternative street demonstrations alone
will not bring about any regime change on their own. Oppositon needs concretre plans of action, otherwise it will be easy for the regime to use all its forces to suppress the protests. In Tehran alone three and a half million Iranians took to the streets almost two years ago. There hasn't been such large scale show of force, since? And why is that?"

The day Islamic Republic was voted in, the Revolution was DEAD.

by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on

Stillborn is a metaphor some historians have used to define the complicated process of 1979 Revolution in Iran and how it went astray.

It's noteworhty that since day one IR has had consistent opposition on its hands: women, unemlpoyed workers, national and religious minorities.

GR, aren't we forgetting National Democratic Front? That was one of the organizations that since day one had no illusions about mullahs. To NDF's credit both Shamlo and Saaedi used ot write for their paper, and NDF had many contacts with national minorities from Khuzestan to Kurdestan..

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

Great Revolution

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

Dear Mammad I do not see anything Great about the revolution. It went off right when people failed to support Bakhtiyar who offered freedom and peace. The moment they mixed religion and government it was doomed.

A religious state is inherently discriminatory against all not of that religion. It is hard to believe "thinkers" managed to come up with the idea. It is not a matter of Islam but any religion will make a mess if mixed with politics.

The revolution was a bad idea to begin with. It was led by bad people. Right from the beginning with the hostages it was obvious it is rotten. It managed to live to its goals. An utter failure and a disgrace. I hope we learned no religion in government.
