Isolate Iran more, preparing for the attack on iran!
by gol-dust on Thu Apr 24, 2008 11:27 PM PDTDivide and conquer! That shows israel cannot do it with onlly US help! So desperate! Hillary in their pocket!
It might be more complicated than that
by Abarmard on Thu Apr 24, 2008 01:09 PM PDTRecently Iran has upgraded the Syrian defense and monitoring system. I am not sure if Syria will just turn to Israel. But in politics anything goes. I just hope that your theory is not going to happen.
Another way to look at all this is that Iran and Israel are both benefiting from this "enemy" talks and in reality don't care about one another. Trita Parsi has expanded more on this idea. It's just a game, maybe!
We are all being played by the powers (Theory e tow'te'e).

What I was getting at was the idea of a tit-for-tat. Syria has been trying to get the Golan Heights back for so long. In fact, this has been their main goal for the past 40+ years. If they make a deal with Israel, there is a possibility that in case a war breaks out with Iran, or in case the US/Israel decide to bomb Iran's strategic sites, Syria will turn a blind eye.
There isn't much reason for Israel to give back the heights suddenly after all these years if you think about it. They've always had other means of leverage and still do.
Anyway, this is perhaps stretching it all too much on my side, but it makes me wonder.

by Abarmard on Thu Apr 24, 2008 10:13 AM PDTThe issue is not based on money and/or economy. United States has been offering Syria a great economical incentive. One area that I think has been the major reasoning behind Syria's involvement with Iran is that Syrian regime similar to the IR doesn't trust the west and Israel.
They know that with tension the chances of them staying in power are more. The Syrian population has also felt superior because they "feel" independent. Being a puppet regime is a common site in the ME, and some regimes such as Iran and Syria have been enjoying the pride and cultural dominance to the region because of their "Standing up".
Syria is not suffering and I don't see a reason for them to change course. Their stability has been growing since they have joined the Iranian camp! Israel is not a cultural, economical power house and actually being in the Israeli camp decreases your chance to satisfy your already angry population. I don't see it, but I have been wrong many times before.
Re-orientation
by Parham on Thu Apr 24, 2008 04:40 AM PDTI actually posted this because of the consequences it will most likely have for Iran should things go through.
Golan Height is not a piece
by Anonymousk (not verified) on Wed Apr 23, 2008 06:01 PM PDTGolan Height is not a piece of land. It is already populated by maronite Lebanese and Syrians...at any rate. Here is a good article about the issue:

Facts and Myth of Syrian-Israeli talks
Don't hold your breath
by Abarmard on Wed Apr 23, 2008 05:31 PM PDTAnd the problem has never been that Israel would give a "LAND" back, it's been that after giving it "BACK' they begin jewish settlements!
